Dallas can sign Dez for the next two years without any competition with the franchise tag. If they wanted to use the non-exclusive tag they could match any offer or get 2 first round picks. Neither option is bad.

The have NO REASON to smear Dez and by extension themselves with a Domestic Violence scandal. Plus it just isn't JJones' style.

Dallas would much rather have dez signing that initial 10 year lowball offer than franchise him two years straight at close to 30 million. If dez felt threatened enough by whatever (may/ not) circulating out there, the rationale would be that he would be "scared" into taking that initial deal to get what he can before the video "leaks". By that same token, other teams may not be willing to part with 2 1st round picks because of this mediastorm rehashing dez's old issues, warranted or not.

So no, while I'm not saying that jerry and the FO perpetrated this, I wouldn't say that the Cowboys didn't gain any benefit from this smear campaign in terms of negotiations. This is just logical based on what has happened.

My own thoughts on this: The timing of the rumors is a bit questionable though. An event from 2011 gets rehashed right around contract negotiations. Rapaport, Schefter, Werder and Shefter (despite questionable journalism about the video), all are reporting from sources inside valley ranch that the cowboys have reservations about dez's off the field issues all kinda feeds into this. And you would think that dez's friends trying to benefit from this would blackmail him AFTER he got paid, not before.....

Well, I wish I could argue with you on that. But I can't - I'm stuck in an abusive relationship with the Washington Commanders until Dan Synder either stops jock slobbering over his high-profile players or sells the team. I grew up watching them with my dad under Joe Gibbs.

My only satisfaction, is that based on your user name here, you remember a time when that was not the case for us, when 12-4 was the norm much more than 4-12.

Also, not many people outside of Dallas fans are going to like Dez Bryant, and are going to be all too eager to bring up his past. You'd almost surely have the same disdain for him (based on what he's done and gotten away with previously) if he played for any other team than yours.

Dez has had his troubles like most people do at a young age but he's matured and grown well over the years and he definitely doggs your BUMS on the field, ask your corners about him.

Are we relieved? Hell yes we are. Was there a crime committed? Not according to police who investigated the incident. Was there a video? Not according to Wal-Mart. Just a friendly tip so you don't look like the troll you're not trying to be, pay more attention next time. Because by introducing that question, when you did, after this proved to be nothing, you were trolling. Period.
