Jim Miller and Pat Kirwan were talking about this last night. Said he will not get this. Said his contract may look like that, but when you get to the "real money", he will probably be around 10/11M.

They also said he couldn't start today for the Bronco's with Talib and harris and they only make 8/9 million, so they don't know why someone would pay him 16 when he is not better than those two.

Just their thoughts of course.

That's actually pretty solid analysis by those guys.

Clearly that will be the next "regret" contract in the NFL. A team will throw huge guaranteed money at him, get 1-2 years of solid play at best, then either face a decline or injuries leaving them with a $10+ million cap hit decision.

The NFL has truly become a league of maximizing first contract talent, selectively picking second or third contracts, sprinkling in desperate low priced veterans, and having a QB. If you can score a low cost QB, it opens up great opportunities down the roster (i.e. Seattle).

In 1990, no way a team lets Norman go. Now they do the cost analysis and quickly understand that it's better to get a 3rd round comp pick and save the salary cap space.

It also gives you pause as Jerry "grew up" in the old NFL paradigm. Either he needs to trust guys who understand the new system or else he'll keep spinning his wheels.

I will throw this out there.

People said that when the Eagles signed Maxwell that was the next big blunder contract that was going to harm a team. And while the contract was kind of stupid, somehow the Eagles were able to get out from under it and in the process turn his bad contract into the 8th pick which they then flipped to get the 2nd pick.

If you structure a deal right and you have a quality GM who can negotiate, sometimes these bad deals aren't as painful as you think. But still, $16MM is way too much for Norman.

He is 28 and an All Pro CB...that is what they get

Maybe he does deserve it...but he probably wants a longterm contract that takes him well past 30. How long do you think he's going to be an "all pro cb" past 30?

all deals can be over after 3 years.......just guarantee 45m and that's that

you won't be paying for after 30 unless he is performing

yeah.. but the eagles also had a lot of cap room to work with to get rid of those guys.. skins don't..especially if cousins does become there guy hes going to get paid.. same with Jordan reed. you look at there holes on the line and rest of secondary they really don't have much to work with.

That's pretty silly.

All Pro CBs don't settle when they hit the open market at 28, which almost never happens

Over the first 14 weeks of the season, Norman held DeAndre Hopkins, Mike Evans, TY Hilton, Dez Bryant, and Julio Jones to a combined 9 receptions for 89 yards.

For the season, opposing quarterbacks had a passer rating of 54.0 when throwing at Norman, the lowest rating allowed by all NFL corners

Right now the Panthers are 31M under the cap. If his own team will not give him 16M....that says something. I live in Carolina and right now everything is saying it's money. No locker room issues, no off the field issues. They just don't think he is in the class of Revis/Sherman and shouldn't be paid like them.

Oh well, not a Cowboy, so I don't care.

Actually they do. They are estimated to have $58MM in cap space after this season per Over the Cap. Top 15 in the league which is where Philly was.

So disregard the stats.....54 Passer Rating against.....best in the NFL....18 passes defensed.....4 INTS

but Miller and Kirwan(who) say he is over-rated.....I'll believe my lying eyes

It does out it in some perspective. Even if you do think he's better than either of the Broncos' corners, he's not better than both combined! And he also won't have that pass rush that Denver has and Carolina had, no matter where he goes.

oh wow yeah they do.. they have a lot of holes tho. no qb signed no WRs (Jackson will try to get another big deal) and reed is a free agent. and if they sign Norman that's more used. but your right they can dump him off if he does in fact become another Maxwell
