The Gilmore signing was 2 years ago.
It is the one time they paid large money for a FA.
They did so because they missed on their own CB draft selections.

The Rams and NE have not signed anyone of note THIS YEAR.
The Pats didn't last year either.
You are literally talking about 3 FA cycles ago now for the Pats.

It is just this:
What I found was staggering. And it’s so simple that you can really explain it in five words.

Most good teams didn’t spend.
And those good teams tended to win consistently, not be up one year and down the next and still at the end of the day, fail with weak efforts in the playoffs.

No matter how hard you try, you cannot deny the consistent failure of this team to advance deep in the playoffs.

Staggering you can't come to grips with that.

Ya that's a lie

Rams went to the Superbowl almost solely with their Free Agents

:hammer:The Rams and Patriots' biggest additions recently have not been free agents but trade acquisitions. And the Cowboys just hit one out of the park with Amari Cooper.

There were no free agents in the first wave- ET included- that I would have wanted over the guys Dallas will need to extend over the next year (Cooper, Tank, Zeke, Dak, Byron Jones, maybe even Jaylon Smith).

We don’t ask you make a living there Stephen.

But 2-3 decent contract guys isn’t too much to ask is it?

Who says we haven't already added them and you just don't recognize the names? Did you know who Woods was last year? I didn't. But he was a strong contributor.

What about Looney before that? Never heard of him.

We have added a few reasonably priced players. Maybe some of them will pan out.

Crawford is actually a deal for his production

Production, flexibility, and availability.

Maybe not a bargain at his cap hit, but his salary is only 7, his flexibility saved us last year, and looks like we'll need that flexibility again this year.

If Gregory, Irvin, and Lawrence had all worked out, it would be harder to justify that salary. But we could start opening day with *none* of them on the roster.

Jerry and Stephen regurgitate the same old BS every year about being determined to reach SB status, minus doing what it takes to do so. It takes better management than they are willing to provide to get to the required level to be a honest-to-God SB contender. Let's not fall for their con job. Their perennial failure to meet what it takes to get there just isn't happening. It takes more than mere backup scrubs to bolster positions of need.
yup...snake oil salesmen with a twist...it happens to be owners of the Dallas Cowboys. Its a cryin shame too. The franchise deserves better.

Maybe Stephen believes this is MLB where when you sign free agents you lose draft picks.

Maybe Stephen is still bitter about Jerry asking him if he was going to punch him when he signed Deion over his wishes.

Maybe Stephen thinks he's the smartest man in the room and he'll always draft so well that he'll always be spending on the guys he picked a few years before. (My pick.)

Or maybe he looks at this and realizes we can't scout free agents anyway:

What exactly have Jones won in past 20 years that would lead us to believe they know what they are doing? They seem to be all in on FA or they sit out almost completely. Here is idea: have balanced approach and don't consistently over-value your own drafted players. Know when your short on talent and use BOTH draft and FA to move ahead of teams who beat you specifically in playoffs. I remember when Cowboys were about getting ahead of 49ers at all cost. Now its...lets keep swinging for doubles, keep those seats filled and hope nobody finds out about us.

Stop making sense. All the folks wearing rose colored glasses will start throwing stones at you... But we made the playoffs the past two of the three years. We are going to organically get better. Have patience. The problem is that the NFL is moving at a much faster rate than really anyone can imagine, especially a mom and pop organization like Dallas. Yes we are ultimately ~to the Cincy Bengals only we have cash coming out of our ears.
The truth of the matter is, you have to go all in NOW. Look at the Eagles, Saints, Bears, Rams, look at Seattle in 2012 after they got Wilson. They made a push for 3-4 years. Look at the Niners under Harbaugh... remember they made the SB in 2012, lost in the championship the following year. Look how quickly it fell apart? Unless you are the Patriots and have the Brady, Bill infrastructure it moves fast.
We need to look at the moves that will take us over the top. There is no reason why we could not have made the SB last year. What's done is done, what can we do this offseason that will allow us to take the next step? This is the approach our FO should be living and breathing.
your right it does move fast, teams have windows, and if they dont make the most of those windows then they wont go all the way.

I know Denver got beat bad by Seattle in SB, so they made their defense better in FA and got new coaches , and they won a SB in that window.
Had they not made the FA moves they would not have won that SB.
Eagles did the same thing.Rams did last year and it got them to the SB, they just couldnt beat NE.
NO made a good move getting Dez, but he got the injury, just imagine if they had crazy Dez in that last game they lost, it
might have helped them win that game.

For jones to say 1 player wont make a difference is false because you dont really know till you add that player.
You can look at how Amari helped last year and see if you get the right player it can make a big difference.
One thing that hurts dallas is the coaching, with JG at the helm and jones boys hiring the assistants, dallas will
be at a disadvantage even if they added the FA.
Dallas will basically be the same team as last year, and the only thing fans can hope for is that Kitna can help
Dak be better, and that kellen will come up with a new offense that is better.

Did anybody commenting here read the article?

Yep, I clicked the link and read the entire article and I still say we are not aggressive enough. Yea, the Pats are not typically big players in free agency, but they did ink Stephon Gilmore to a huge free agent contract and he graded out by PFF as the best CB in football last season and he picked off Jared Goeff in the SB to seal the win.

Nobody is saying to go crazy in free agency and sign everybody, but picking and choosing and signing one stud here and there is the way to go just like the Pats.

Stephen is the complete opposite...……...he refuses to pay anybody in free agency more than 1 year cheapo contracts. He has got to start getting more aggressive in free agency if this team is serious about competing for a championship.

Then why tell everyone a month ago that we would be “aggressive” in free agency?

Because the natives were restless and the Joneses were defensive about "just being happy to be in the playoffs".

That was when little Stevie said Jerry would trade his HOF jacket for another Lombardi and Jerry responded, "what the hell are you talking about?".

Idgit, The whiners want to whine despite the truth of what is going on w/facts. Quoting from the article:

Five of the six lightest-spending teams made the playoffs last year, and two of the three lightest spenders played in the Super Bowl. Ten of the 12 playoffs teams from last year are in the bottom 14 in spending thus far. And two of the four in that cluster that didn’t make the playoffs (Atlanta, Carolina) have been in the Super Bowl and made the playoffs multiple times over the last four years.
• That leaves two of the 18 heaviest spenders that made the playoffs. One was eighth (Philly), the other was 12th (Baltimore).
• It’s not unusual that it’d skew this way—good teams don’t spend because they’ve already paid a lot of their own guys and likely don’t feel as desperate. But a quick look at the recent past shows that this year the divide between the habits of the haves and have-nots was much more pronounced

2 Wildcard wins in the past decade...…………….and you want us to believe that this front office knows what it is doing?

Then where are the results? If Jerry and Steven are so great at their job, if Garrett is so great at his job, if avoiding free agency like it is the plague is such a great philosophy, then where are the postseason results?

You homers defend everything this organization does and call everybody else that doesn't a bunch of whinners, but you cant answer why the results are not there. Jason Garrett is the longest tenured head coach in the NFL to win nothing more than Wildcard games. Every other coach that has been in the league as long as him as had more postseason success, that is just a fact.

So why?
