He just might be, but I just can't trust the guy to ever stay healthy.

It was like the Colts with Bob Sanders; he was great on the field but was hardly ever there. The one time he was healthy at the end of the season they won the SB mainly on D.

All that said, if RT is a train wreck with injury or performance issues, I think they would move Collins to RT in that context but only if all other options fail.

And that's exactly what I'm afraid of. In my opinion, you either move Collins there now, and get him as many offseason reps as you can, or you don't. I think he would need the technique work. But if he doesn't get them now, I don't want to see any move happen later, because I see it as a recipe for failure for both the player and the team.

If they want to play him at guard, fine, just live with the consequences if things don't work out at RT.

As far as Greens play goes, im a huge fan. I think he could play LT at a high level in the NFL. But how many snaps does he take before he goes down? And its not like 2016 was an exception for him

I personally dont think Collins is the answer at RT. Probably isnt even better then Bell. But I think we need to find someone to start grooming

I think the latter is what they will do but I would not be surprised if Collins gets some looks at RT in training camp just in case as well but I doubt he is he moved position wise during that time unless all the other options fail at that point.

Cowboys VP Stephen Jones: La'el Collins has the versatility to play right tackle, but "our first preference is to have him play guard."

Just passing what many of us already knew on the matter!

The use of exclamation points suggests "exciting news!" when this is neither exciting or news,,, you sir are a news tease.

Stephen Jones: Chaz Green time at RT but La’el Collins to get look
March 27, 2017 10:52 AM

“We like the way he played at guard,” Jones said of Collins at tackle. “The goal right now is to find a good right tackle and he plays great at guard. But that is not out of the question. We could look at that some point. It wouldn’t surprise me if you see him get reps at tackle in camp.”

There was a tread discussing this very article at the time it came out.

No, this specific tweet was from Machota today with reference to SJ on the fan TODAY, SJ has been saying this same thing for over 3 months to be sure but some have not been hearing him accordingly.

There have been many videos and thus articles on the same matter for months but this tweet was a fresh quote of SJ TODAY on the FAN with the same message that has been articulated for over three months that some are in denial about hence the post.

I like the player, and thought Green did a very good job under tough circumstances replacing Tyron Smith. But injuries - and serious injuries - have been an ongoing problem for him, and until he breaks that trend, I can't trust or rely on him.

I personally dont think Collins is the answer at RT. Probably isnt even better then Bell. But I think we need to find someone to start grooming

I disagree with that assessment. At one point, Collins was not only a tackle, but a left tackle, the more demanding position. And he was a left tackle in the SEC, the NFL's training grounds. If he can handle that role, on that stage, I think he could handle the requirements on the right side. In fact, I think his size and strength are an ideal match there.

And during his career, Byron Bell has been one of the lowest graded tackles in the league. I don't share the optimism about him, not at tackle anyway.

That is a concern but the real question is can Collins be any better at RT than what we have and can who you put at guard be better than Collins can be
Martin could play RT but I think most would agree he is better at guard
Collins will get reps at RT in camp and we will ser

and none of it means anything, lol. SJ has said he'll likely get reps at both.
SJ isn't the OL coach and the roster isn't complete.
this means absolutely nothing.

It means they prefer Collins at LG but they have the flexibility to move him to RT if it is a disaster over there in the final analysis.

Taking reps at both would be wise considering the unknown at RT with injury or performance but they have stated clearly their preference.

SJ said they prefer him at LG over RT and Garrett his head coach says it is in his "best interest" to stay at LG.

So it means ideally they want him to play LG but they do have flex with the player if needed.

he's gonna get reps at both and they really have no idea how he'll look or if green will be healthy.
they resigned jonathon cooper as a quality back up guard and have a quality chaz green at rt.
no one knows yet where he will play but just that if healthy he will play.
anyone thinking they have a "right" answer here is deluding their-selves.
the team as always will try to build the best possible ol and how that shakes out is still a mystery because they've got an open spot to fill and multiple options.
they could go draft an OL in the top 3 rounds and that guy walks in as a starter.
so yes he is a starter at LG until he isn't.
no team would say anything different.

I understand what the Cowboys have said - and continue to say - but this is a decision I disagree with.

I think a line with Collins at RT looks a lot better than one attempting to rely on Chaz Green to stay healthy or Byron Bell to suddenly become good at football.

I wouldn't have a problem w/ them trading down and then taking Dan Feeney. I think Collins is a more natural tackle than G.

And Feeney has pro bowl potential. Why not make a strength a bigger strength? I'm all for keeping that POS defense and Marinelli on the sideline where they can do the least damage.:)

Disagree, they prefer him at LG until otherwise noted and it has clearly been stated by the FO and head coach over and over again.

Cooper is depth at G probably nothing more at this point.

They know Collins can play LG, the main question for Green is not can he play RT but can he stay healthy.

Bell can play some G and RT but to what degree?

I agree, they may draft an OT but the draft is not loaded at the T position so finding a plug and play is doubtful especially considering what they probably will do at #28 on defense.

Collins taking some RT reps is just smart business considering the RT position and the unknown with injury or performance.

Not difficult to understand that they prefer Collins stays at LG but do value his flex ability if needed.

Think Feeney is a considered a RG. BTW not one OL visit to the Star. The only OL they really spent time on was Davenport from Bucknell who I really like.

Ewwww......:omg: Julien Davenport OT Bucknell was absolutely abused during the Sr Bowl practices. No thanks. Just don't see him making the jump to NFL level.

Jonathan Cooper was a 1st round pick, number 7 overall I believe. At some point, he had the talent and ability to be selected there. Left guard is his natural position, so I would give him a shot there. I also think Bell is a better candidate for guard than tackle, so I'd give him a look there as well.
