This is in the current issue of Star Mag in a column titled "3 & Out." They put 3 questions to Stephen Jones including this one:

Star Mag: Were you bothered by Terrell Owens naming you as the reason he was released?

Stephen Jones: Well, I'm flattered that someone would think I could make that decision, because no one's made decisions like that around here for the last 20 years except one guy. I think a lot of Terrell, he's a really good football player and I think Jerry described it the very best, you look at the whole picture. Age, what you're paying him, what their production is, how they fit, the medical, the whole nine yards, and then you make decisions, I hate that Terrell thinks that because I do respect Terrell. He was very productive for us.

This appears in the print version on Star Mag. I couldn't find it online, but here's the link to the site: http://www.dallascowboysstar.com/.

I think this was said by Stephen a while ago. It isn't new. It's pretty much word for word what he said about it after Owens was released.

I'm surprised I hadn't already read it somewhere else then. I got the mag a couple of weeks ago and finally got around to reading it. Just thought it was interesting since there's some question about whether or not Stephen was the master mind behind the release. Of course, his denial means absolutely nothing. It's the smart answer.

Hero, Terrell Owens didn't say you made it, he said you were behind it.

And I'm glad you did what a lot of people would have been too intimidated to do. It's no easy task telling Jerry Jones one of his multi-million dollar toys has got to go.

"Wide receiver Terrell Owens believes Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reneged on a personal commitment to keep him on contract, and suggested that the owner's son, Stephen Jones, the executive vice-president of the NFL team, was behind his release this month. "You hear all the speculation, and you talk to the owner of the team, and he reassures you, you're not going anywhere and then, out of left-field … you get blindsided," Owens, 35, said in an interview with Rogers Sportsnet, to be broadcast tomorrow evening.

He acts like his dad is some dictator and he has no input.

I would gladly own up to it. Never should have been here in the first place.

Your not the only one who feels that way. Signing Owens was like making a deal with the Devil. Sooner or later, you pay.

No crap. What in the hell were they thinking?

And I'll never root for a player who disrespects my team as bad as possible when his team is killing mine. Unreal, Jerry.

All the publicity earned Jerry some extra money.

And he used that extra money for this...

I wanted TO to be cut BADLY
but I saw the reasoning behind signing him in the 1st place, he gave us a huge spark his 1st 2 years here

re-signing him however was a huge mistake, you borrow guys like TO for a couple years, and then let them ride off into the sunset, you don't hitch your ship to them like we did giving him a new contract, that was beyond stupid

It also prevented us from getting another nice supplemental pick for losing Owens' services when they get handed out next year.

Re-signing a guy that averages 80+ catches, 1200 yards and 13 TDs isn't quite as stupid as....

Trading a 1st, 3rd, and 6th for a guy you could've had in the offseason. Given him the richest WR contract in football, only to watch him play no better than Miles Austin. [/devils advocate]

I'll have to admit when Dallas signed him, I was willing to give him a clean slate. I wasn't against the move. There were two good years and then last year's train wreck that included his significantly declining play on the football field.

Here is a big thank you to Stephen Jones and his wisdom.

He's been hurt a whole hell of a lot less than the 27 year old we gave up an arm and a leg for.

Indeed. You can't appease players like Terrell Owens, but you can embolden them. The checks and balances were gone when he was off the separate 3 year deals.

Roy's game can only go up
it seemed that TO's production was starting to take a dip, and kind of like Roy Williams the safety, they found TO's kryptonite, so-to-speak

I'd be surprised if TO is ever able to not get stymied by the press w/ safety help over the top

Yes indeed. Thats it.(funny how that wasnt taken into consideration when they re-signed less than a year before he was released) Uh huh. IT MUST BE TRUTH.

Terrell Owens aged 10 years from the extension he just signed.

Yes, Extra! Extra! Read all about it.

So let it be written... so let it be done.

Put Romo in for the 3 games he missed and TO stays around his consistent above average numbers as a Cowboy.

Its only 2 years ago that TO had his 2nd best season EVER as a Cowboys WITH Romo.
