According to Mickey Spagnola who interviewed Stephen Jones today, The backup Qb position will be the teams #1 priority in the offseason.

Don't be shocked if the Cowboys start dangling draft picks to get a backup qb they really want.
I have a feeling Johnny Football will be a Cowboy for like a 3rd or 4 th rd pick or something. If Stephen says it's the #1 priority I don't think they will be taking a chance that someone gets released, That sounds like they will be making some phone calls and being very proactive in getting a quality backup.

Thoughts?

No, the priority is finding a QB to lead this team into the future... or do these morons still believe Romo can last an entire season at this point in his career and carry this team to a championship. Delusional front office making the decisions off hope is just par for the course with this franchise.

This is what needs to happen. I'm hopeful in what he means by back up is eventually finding Romo's replacement as well.

The success rate of the FO finding a new starter is bottom of the barrel at minimum. I'm hoping Romo has another two years in him and they find some one to groom to take his place. I hope Jerry and Stephen aren't talking another teams failure here but with them I wouldn't bet against it.

You got it half-right, Stephen Boy.
A backup to an aged brittle QB? Make sure that backup QB will be able to play at least 10 games a year.

Sigh, just when I think Stephen and Sir Jones have it right, they diverge into more silliness.

Gotta read between the lines. Even a number one pick would be a backup to Romo beginning next year hopefully that's what he means because if they're not going to bring in a legit quarterback we're doomed again

The problem here (depending on your perspective) is that this team is largely built to win now and the most likely candidates who could step in when Romo gets hurt and succeed are veterans, not rookies. They also see that with a likely Top Ten pick, there's going to be the chance to pick up a young, impact player at any number of positions they could use help such as DL or secondary or LB or even WR.

That's what I think you will see they won't take a Lynch or Goff in the draft............ but likely take a guy like a RG3 or Manziel if they can get one, then maybe draft a development kid after the first round.

I can't say I disagree with that at all. I don't think either Lynch or Goff are worthy of a Top Ten pick so I'd rather go with a kid like Wentz later.

The only back up I want to see here, is one draft in the first 2 rounds of the draft. And that he will be the eventual franchise starter in 2. To 3 years, or when Romo goes out again.

But we all know that won't happen. It they somehow are successful. It will be by shear luck, and not from a well thought out planned scheme.

Look, mates. We'll be in contention with a number of teams for a blue-chip QB.
Titans won't need a QB. San Diego still believes Rivers has maybe 3 more years left. the Lions already have a slinger. The Browns now believe Johnny Looseball can play -- they won't be in the QB stakes.
The Dollphins have their Aggie QB. Now as I see it, the 49ers might be interested in a QB pick in the first round. That team will be our main competitor for a QB in the first round.

Just get the best QB in the 1st round Sir Jones and quit dragging your Italian-loafered feet.
A QB, Sir Jones, not a backup.
