Romo will be Dallas QB for sometime now hopefully. Basically I think we are grooming a QB for someone else b/c its 2 early for grooming the next guy when your team has more glaring needs.

This is how we got into QB messes of years past. There is ALWAYS a need to develop a young QB. Need or no need.

We'll agree to disagree.

I agree that we need to develop a guy, but this year wasn't it.

At least not in the fourth when we could maybe have landed a starter there. But we didn't even get a backup in the 4th round. We got a 3rd stringer!

Almost no rookie will come in and be a viable #2. We got a nice situation w/ Kitna for a year or two, and a prospect like Mcgee who many teams would jump on.

And if all things go according to plan Mcgee is a backup to Romo for a few years, and we can flip him for a 2nd rounder one day

What are the expectations for this kid in your eyes?

For Me He is about 4-5 years away from being NFl ready and even then maybe just a backup. He DOES have a good arm and some NFL QB tools but they are nothing more then What We've already seen with failures like Drew Henson.

I honeslty believe that some of his supporters have never seen Him play and are just basing this potential off physical hability.

Even in his highlights you can see that This style of play will take years to develope. EVEN Romo playing at his level showed the capacity to throw the ball. Romo was As raw as they came but He Provided all the tools a QB needs to be succesfull. much more then this guy. This happy Feet run first style Qb is not what dallas needs for the future.

I'd at least try to see him through the pre-season before passing judgement. People with more football smarts than me drafted him.

Don't be so sure of that. I think us zoners could work the phones on draft day and get just as many good players as our draft guys in Dallas get right.

And if everybody that says "we should have taken that guy. I told you he was awesome"..... actually says it beforehand,

we would have 22 pro-bowlers.

;)

We blow just as many I was all over Newman his Junior year he was talking about coming out the same year as Jammer who i thought was way over hyped and said Newman was better. newman would have went late 1st round that year he decided to go back and we got him the next year but at a higher cost.

I got that one right but I missed on Rashaun Woods of Ok State. When the 49ers grabbed him I was like darn i thought he be at least a good wr and he did nothing.

You just never know

Isnt it ironic that many of the same people who cried like babies because the Cowboys for yrs didnt draft a QB or try to develop one for the future are now crying about how drafting one this yr was a wasted pick?

The need for a QB to develop is real.
But, seriously, McGee was drafted on the chance that he might be good. He was drafted too for PR reasons. The A&M connection. Heck, Jerra would draft that smallish Colt whatshisname from UT if he could.

But in the real world of the NFL, these mutts quickly show themselves for what they are. Barely serviceable, relatively cheap and not ready for primetime.

When Cowboy fans go plining for a QB to draft and develop -- someone with real talent and not the QB of a so-so team -- they want someone like a Sanchez or a Matt Ryan. Prolific and successful at a brand-name school with a respected football program. McGee came from neither. And don't you Aggies go crying cause you know it's true. .500 seasons are the norm, don't deny it cause that is where McGee comes from.
I hope McGee does well. Duh! Hope he does very well, cause we need it. I also hoped the best for Henson and Leaf and Quinthy and all them scrubs. But it didn't happen.
Romo and Kitna is deep enough. And if not deep enough then certainly room for a veteran, if available.

I really don't want to wait for 4-5 years for rookies. In this age it is insanity.
You gotta play em bravely like the Jets and Atlanta. Or make them earn their way in the CFL.

hooray for beer.

The Jets and Atlanta had to draft their QBs in the 1st round because they did not already have a QB on their roster the caliber of Tony Romo. Dallas does, so they can draft in a later round and take some time to develop him. The 3rd, 4th and 5th rounds are good rounds to get a young developmental QB. Maybe you don't like McGee, but Dallas was wise to draft a QB and develop him for the future.

People were mad they didn't keep Matt Moore around in 2007 to develop and he was undrafted.

In this age of insanity Dallas kept undrafted Tony Romo on the bench for over 3 years letting him develop.

New England let Cassell sit on the bench for over 3 years to let him develop. The Eagles drafted Kolb in the 2nd round last year with the intent of letting him develop over a few seasons. Many experts consider them to be two of the better run franchises and they did what Dallas is trying to do with McGee.

The funny thing is there were some bigtime scouts who thought a lot about McGee and even said if he had been in a pro style offense his entire time in college than he might have been a first round pick.

He's got all the tools guys. He just needs to be groomed. I don't see whats not to like about this move.

Also , supposedly, had we not taken him than the Patriots were going to snag him.

Gosselin also said that McGee got picked right where he thought he would so its not like we reached.

Other than Felix Jones how many guys came from Arkansas? As far as Texas player there are not many on this team. Jones drafting McGee because he went to A&M? Please what the hell are you smoking. McGee stock was rising after the combines which was being reported well before the Cowboys took him. As for Colt McCoy Dallas will not be picking high enough in the draft to get him but someone will take him because he has talent.
