Stephen: Pickens is "fired up" about getting the tag placed on him

True though
True though
Maybe, I see he tends to irritate quite a few here with his takes. Sometimes they're head-scratching I'll admit.

He takes abuse for it but he remains mostly positive when he has to defend himself.

Maybe he doesn't know the ins and out of the game like many here. But I think he's a true fan like most of us on this site.

I'm just a new guy to this forum seeing what I see.

How come Pickens never made any of his qbs in Pittsburgh?
Dak is a good QB who put up great numbers because of CeeDee and Pickens. We've seen Dak without Cooper or without his lead or #1 receiver who can draw double teams and give him easier reads requiring less accuracy....HE SUCKS.

To be clear, most of the highlights Pickens has are catching Dak's jump-balls (pause) and RAC. Dak is Tito Jackson.

Another classic example of conflict of interest.

Stephen is using his football-related position on the team to sell tickets.

Wow Didn’t realize you are able to talk to all the players! Thanks for the info
Its not the players you need to talk to.

Talk to the agents. But while we are on the topic of the players there is not a single one who would not prefer a multi-year long-term contract over a franchise tag.

You just aren't seeing the numbers. Take a look at Cee Dee's contract. He was paid $38 million upfront as a signing bonus on his long-term contract.

With the same amount of ink used by both Cee Dee and Pickens are you seriously going to tell me that George Pickens, who had a significantly better year than Cee Dee, is gong to be happy with $28 million versus a larger signing bonus which is also all guaranteed.

Who would not want $10 million USD more at the signing of a contract?

He doesn't look frustrated to me. They have known the tag was coming for many weeks now and he wasn't unhappy about it.
It's not the player you should be looking at.

It's the agent. FYI Pickens is not the sharpest tool in the shed. I would say he is football shortbuser so most of the business decisions he would make or respond to would not be worth a nickel IMO.

HIs agent would have the more rational financial concern.

Going by what Stephen said, it sounds like he doesn't even want to pay him Lamb money, which is 100m guaranteed. The tag is a lot cheaper. Even if he played twice under the tag, the Jones boys save almost 40m.

It would be nice if he got a deal, but I don't think that's coming.

Having your salary go up 25 million dollars is a victory. That's around 12x.
It’s a good strategy by Stephen.

No team will want GP if they think he is off meds.

Obviously GP wants a long term deal with mega GTD $$$

His agent likely talked him up.

It’s a waiting game.

Someone will take the bait.

I guess this is the point. As other posters have stated this think this is a good deal for Pickens. It's a better deal for the team.

What woudl be better, or "nice"as you stated is getting a long term deal. Franchise tag is not what players want if they could wave their magic wands.

This is simply untrue

It’s the worse possible option for the player.

If he were allowed to pursue a contract, he’d be getting a hundred million.

Tell me how 28 = 100
Not true.
You do know he does not get that $100 million all at once don't you.

That’s because the franchise tag is built to deny free agency. It’s an anti-competitive marketplace by the owners own design.

They have to put real pain in the way of one of their fellow owners trying to sign a player to a fair market contract.

It’s negotiated collusion and since the NFLPA is a eunach entity, they got it in.

The picks are the poison pill of any opportunity the player has to get a long term deal if their current team denies them none.
What? Collusion, that is laughable.
They negotiated the deal and signed it. How about players that sign a contract, then 3 years later hold out because they want more.
Micah was to play under his 5th year option, another negotiated contractual obligation. Then he wants to hold out and fake an injury.

The owners do have a right to protect the their investments.

What meds?
Come on no need to make crap up.

Nope.

The signing bonus alone from a multi year deal is paid all at once and would be more than the single year of the tag.

He gets more immediately and, of course, long term.

Plus, the team gets to spread it over multiple years, helping the cap this year significantly c

You’re referring to Zach MArtin you know. Signed a deal, held out, got paid, sucked and retired. He counts $16.5m against the cap this year

As to the rest, the two things oweners are adamanebt about are the cap and the tag. They refuse to give the players anything at all in the CBA if losing the tag is involves. The NFLPA has been neutered by the league for years and owners have unprecedented control over their players compared to any other sport.

You should do some reading about the history of the tag.
