Stephen: Pickens is "fired up" about getting the tag placed on him

You’re referring to Zach MArtin you know. Signed a deal, held out, got paid, sucked and retired. He counts $16.5m against the cap this year

As to the rest, the two things oweners are adamanebt about are the cap and the tag. They refuse to give the players anything at all in the CBA if losing the tag is involves. The NFLPA has been neutered by the league for years and owners have unprecedented control over their players compared to any other sport.

You should do some reading about the history of the tag.
That is your opinion. Mine is different. I do know about the tag, and what the history of it really does not matter. As each case is different from the way a player and agent sees it, and what the fans want to interpret based on their own beliefs of it.

Many fans take is as Employee vs. Employer based on how they view small gut vs. big guy. And compare it to the corporate world.
I take that factor out of the equation. The NFL is ran differently, as is all sports.

I just answered yourquestion and that’s your response?

If he was “fired up” he’d be on the field with his brothers for the team he wants to play for!

My gosh you guys are like politicians

Its not the players you need to talk to.

Talk to the agents. But while we are on the topic of the players there is not a single one who would not prefer a multi-year long-term contract over a franchise tag.

You just aren't seeing the numbers. Take a look at Cee Dee's contract. He was paid $38 million upfront as a signing bonus on his long-term contract.

With the same amount of ink used by both Cee Dee and Pickens are you seriously going to tell me that George Pickens, who had a significantly better year than Cee Dee, is gong to be happy with $28 million versus a larger signing bonus which is also all guaranteed.

Who would not want $10 million USD more at the signing of a contract?
We won’t know how he’s going to handle it until OTA’s. He’s not required to be there but if he isn’t that will be the first indication of whether he is or is not ok with the tag.

Aren't they supposed to do what they can to sell tickets to begin with?
There is a specific division of the franchise that is assigned that task. They do the marketing and finance.

Unless there is a specific division between the two, we cannot trust a word of what they say when discussing the team or a player's status.

Without that separation we can only assume that they will tell us whatever is beneficial to their ability to make money, i.e. sell tickets.

The majority of GMs manage the football related issues and do not concern themselves with marketing. This allows them to maintain focus on team issues and winning football games.

The typical spokesman for the team when discussing football related issues is the head coach. They will usually present an honest assessment of where the team stands.

Jerry Jones, and now Stephen, has usurped that responsibility to use as a vehicle for propaganda as well as self-gratification.

As far as communicating with fans, the Jones's are dishonest and patronizing.

Yes they have marketing teams. However how is it wrong for them to get in a quick remark that helps.
Once again fans use any little thing to harp on.

Anything to harp on?

How about honesty when it comes to communicating with fans?

I don't know about you but i am sick and tired of hearing how a player should be ready for training camp only to learn much later that he might make it by the 5th game of the regular season.

Why the dishonesty? Just another "quick remark"?

When the guy who communicates the team's status is the same guy that sells the tickets (owner), how confident should we be in the accuracy of his information?

There’s a lot of factors in determining when a player is going to be ready or not. Expectations change daily.

I don't think that will necessarily mean he isn't OK with the tag. He's got until July 15 to get the team to do a long-term deal, so missing OTAs and minicamp are just part of doing business. Players do it as a negotiation ploy because they'd rather have a long-term deal. If none is reached, then you sign the tag, play out the year and try to put yourself in position to get that long-term deal next year.

I think players look at the business aspect of the sport much more than fans do. They understand that the tag is part of doing business ... most of the time. There are exceptions, but also plenty of examples of players playing on the tag the first time it is used on them.

Going by what Stephen said, it sounds like he doesn't even want to pay him Lamb money, which is 100m guaranteed. The tag is a lot cheaper. Even if he played twice under the tag, the Jones boys save almost 40m.

It would be nice if he got a deal, but I don't think that's coming.
We have rarely used the tag twice and not worked out a long-term deal the second time. I think the only time was Anthony Spencer.

Yes there is.

And Jerry needs to stop.

Remember when he said Romo was fine in 2016? Only to find out he had a fractured vertebrae…

Yeah, that’s not good business. You think he didn’t know the severity? Come on man.

YOU GET FIRED UP ABOUT A BIG first down catch, you get fired up about a touchdown, who the hell does this for a franchise tag, let's see how fired up they both are in a few months if things go sour!
Well, in his previous 4 years he made about 9M total. He's making 3X next year alone. So, thats a huge bump in pay. For most people, thats a lifetime of financial security. Granted, he will probably spend it all immediately, but he's in the same position next year and knows he is going back to the same offense with the same QB. He's probably thinking he can put up better numbers and will cash in bigger next year.

That's not what I'm saying though, I'm talking about the process of being tagged, do players really like that having to bet on themselves, going through games with Jerry Jones? Don't they just want long term security??

I think it depends on the situation. I agree most players want a long term term deal. But, in this case Pickens is just happy he's coming back to Dallas and has Dak throwing him the ball. After his 3 years in Pittburgh, he's more appreciative than most in regard to having a QB who can get him the ball.

Is he coming back for sure, he and Dak had a nice connection, we will see where things go

He thinks so. I'm still hoping they trade him.
Why do you say that, I'm 90/10 we should trade him. I'd rather get more draft picks and maybe we can stay put without needing necessarily to trade down. I want us to trade down but if we have the picks from Pickens maybe we can stay put and get a stud

You misread my comment. I hope they trade him too.

Pickens is happy bc he thinks he's making 28M next year and coming back to Dallas.

GP was traded for a 3rd round pick this time last year and considered a combative, bust in Pittsburgh.
Fans are hilariously daft; but he doesn't have to be upset about making 28M GTD in an offense with CeeDee and Dak.

I WISH someone would tell me I am a franchise player. LOL.
