I think Stephen wants to be like bellIicheck and always be decent that way in a lucky year you can win. Maximum plays at the tourney. Rather than gearing up for one run.
The pats keep pushing picks back and could've used them on say a Julio jones or a von miller but like I said I believe their philosophy to be that there's more randomness in football than people think and you should just keep punching your ticket.

The cap is gonna go up and we'll shake off these cap problems pretty quick and then well have comp picks then we're ahead of the game.

That's why I wouldn't be shocked if we go like: 1DT 2LB 3Qb 4S 5RB

The Patriots get away with this because of Tom Brady. Without him, they would be much more like the 49ers with Alex Smith, good enough to keep you in games with a talented roster but no elite QB to put you over the hump.

Right. And I thought it was a mistake to not p after the huge wr prospects as Brady was aground but I believe this was their thinking the whole time as I previously outlined. Because they kept drafting qb's over the years which seemingly was a waste right how but was an investment. Like buying insurance so you can fix your car so you don't miss work in the event of an accident. They may not have been able to trade the qb's but they did evaluate them in case of injury or Brady Ageing.

Basically if you have a top qb he will always carry you to or near the playoffs if you're halfway decent team around him. so you want to keep from having to ever totally rebuild .

Forgive any typos English is not my first language

I think you're right. And I think it's pretty obvious now, that's the direction we're going in.

So we're going to add defenders and supplement a rotation early this year. We'll add a quality back after that. And we'll draft and develop a QB to be ready when Romo's done instead of loading everything up for a run now. We'll take chances on guys with these two year contracts and draft beneath them to develop the talent to replace them when they're gone. Use the lure of the Dallas spotlight and new culture to attract them, and remain good at finding talent from the UDFA ranks. Sign core players and let everybody else get replaced.
It's the right way to do it. Too many variables to load up for any one year. Better to build a quality organization and be there to take advantage of the opportunities like the Pats and Giants and Ravens have.

The Pats have also benefitted from playing in a a terrible division.

Sometimes it's that simple.
The Patriots have also handled the top teams in their conference too. It can be argued that the AFC is now the weaker conference, but that is more of a recent take.

I would argue that the Pats cost themselves a couple SBs trying to get too cute with roster. When you have Brady and play in the AFC East you are going to be competitive, they didn't always have to drop their top guys.

kind of like how the 49ers used to be relevant because of this and get home field advantage in the playoffs every year. It was idiotic for us to stay in the NFC East when the divisions were re-aligned. We could've been playing AZ, NO, and StL twice a year for the next two decades. That doesn't sound terribly easy right now but all of those teams have historic trends of eventually returning to the toilet, unlike Philly and NYG. All it takes is an easy division to get home field and then some luck....see Indy's run, Pitt's run 2x, NE every year....

Cowboys have out-drafted New England for a few years now. I don't think they want to be like NE.. I just think that the smart way to approach free agency is the way NE does it... and Dallas wants to be smart with it now.

Dallas finally has a vision for what it wants to do, has stability and confidence in the coaches, has a plan for free agency and has a plan for the draft. It is the way it should be done IMO and it is more of a coincidence that NE does it that way than anything else IMO.

Even with that said - we play tough games every year. Not the patsey division.
Look how many division titles we have compared to every other NFL team.
Note - those ahead of us in that stat have been around since 1920.

If you have a QB, especially one of the best all time, you'll be competitive every year.

The NFL is all about Head Coach and QB.

Dallas has to take the long way because we have a QB but we have a head coach that provides nothing on Sunday so almost our entire roster has to be elite.

Belichick wins because he cheats and does not get flagged for it. We should have a rule like for AP "no more Pats threads in this forum". You dont support cheaters.

Anyways... Back to the topic. I do think too. But i dont think thats Stephens plan. I do think that mindset is something Garrett brought here and he convinced Stephen and the rest of the club.

It takes an entire week to get it done on Sundays. So I'm perfectly fine with Jason Garrett. He's a good HC, and getting better.

Yeah, Pats having the smartest coach in the NFL and an elite QB has lead them to where they are today. We don't have either unfortunately.

I think he's a good manager of the team but I don't view him as a coach that gives us an edge on game day.

We just do what we do and don't really adjust to who we play.

That's why having an Oline that can impose their will on teams instead of relying on schemes really put us over the top this past year.

I think they got so badly burned by Jay Ratliff that they don't want to go thru it again. With the Ratliff situation, he signed a hefty extension and then refused to play and there wasn't much the team could do about it. I think from there, they started to see all of the problems they had with other players getting towards the twilight of their careers like Marion Barber, DeMarcus Ware, etc. I don't think they hold a grudge against these players, but I think they hold a grudge against Ratliff and that woke them up to the problem with aging players in the league.

Dallas also has other big factors. When it comes to the Dallas Cowboys brand, it's the strongest football brand of any team in the NFL. That means more off the field endorsements and opportunities. Combine that with no state income tax (yes, I know they get taxed on away games) and a much lower cost of living in Texas...I don't think the team needs to pay as much.

And we've seen it time and again...if you perform well at Dallas and become a free agent...you'll get paid. Either by the Cowboys or another team. That's what I think somebody like Greg Hardy really has going for him....stay clean and play well and next year he'll get that big contract one way or the other.
