Steven Jackson instead of JJ?

If you guys will remember, Stephen Jackson was one of the guys we passed up and took Julius Jones instead. Actually, instead of getting Steven in the first round, we traded the Bill for their 2nd round pick that year (which snagged Julius), and their first round pick the next year (which got us Marcus Spears).

I think when you add Marcus Spears to JJ, that's a better deal than just Steven Jackson. However, if you were just comparing the two running backs, would you rather have Julius Jones or Steven Jackson?

RB to RB, I'd take SJ. He's the better RB IMO.

But I'd rather have JuJo, Spears, and MBIII, then just SJ. :D

I'd probably take Jackson straight-up. He's a complete back -- just look at his receiving numbers.

Though, I do find it hard to complain about the Jones-Barber duo.

As I've said in other player-for-player comparisons, there's often that grass-is-greener mentality. Yeah, I'd take Jackson, but I think we got lucky in that we still managed to find something that works very effectively.

My concern with Jackson is the supposed knee condition he had. Wasn't that rumored to be a big reason why we passed on him? If that turns out to have legs, we could be breathing a sigh of relief three years from now. If not, oh well.

I loved Jackson at the time of the draft that year and still like him a lot. Runs like Barber with a touch of more speed.

Julis jones combined with Marion Barber does everything that Jackson brings to the table and then some. I like the way things are at present.

It was a good trade, it gave Dallas Jones and Spears and roundaboutly it brought Bledsoe here as well. Say what you want but he brought leadership and skill that at the very least helped refine Tony Romo.

Jackson, no question. I was mad when we didn't get him during the draft.

Julius isn't that bad though, and I love him because he's a Cowboy.

I'd take SJ

the real question is, who would Detroit take if they could do it over again?

I haven't seen much of Kevin Jones. Is he just not very good? Injured?

SJ seems to run awfully high. Because of this, I think JJ will have a longer and more productive career.

Why do you say it roundaboutly brough Bledsoe here as well? Because we didn't draft a QB?

Because the pick we traded Buffalo gave them JP Losman and enabled them to cut Bledsoe. It is a tapestry that has led to a Cowboy revival. Good runner, good run-stopper, veteran quarterback to further show the ropes to a young gun.

Because the trade we made with Buffalo allowed them to draft Losman. After they got Losman, it made Bledsoe expendable (the next year).

If we would have taken Castillo instead of Spears I would say with much more authority that it was a good trade, since we didn't I gotta say I'd rather have Stephen Jackson.

he's been injured this year, but after his rookie year, and minus a couple games, he's been pretty pedestrian

it doesn't help that last year Detroit totally abandoned the running game in the 2nd half

Julius Jones is having a pretty good year but he needs more attempts and touchdowns, I still don't understand why the Cowboys don't throw him the ball more with all the attention the other receivers get down the field....

Eh, he's not bad. You can check his profile here:

http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/492975

About 600 yards and a 4.2 average this year.

Just doesn't seem as explosive as he was in college. And, like you said, he is a little injury prone.

Did he put on a lot of weight since coming to the NFL? Has anyone else noticed that? He seems like he's traded in a lot of explosiveness for bulk. Could be mistaken, though.

I was actually hoping we'd draft Losman that year.

Thank god we didn't.

Why throw him the ball when you can throw it to TO, TG, and Witten? JuJo is the last of the cowboys skilled players I want to see catching passes.

Castillo like all 2005 Charger draft picks had steroid issues, no thank you, one Leon Lett is enough for my lifetime.

Funny, because it was Jone's screen pass that essentially won the game against the Colts...
