Still loving Garrett?

The only thing I dislike about Garrett is his refusal to run the ball inside the 5=10 yard line, at least on a consistent basis. Yea, I know our Oline isn't run blocking very well, but the run is something you've got to stick with. We don't stick with it long enough to see if it will work. Back when Emmitt was tearing up the NFL, he often had a poor first half, but came back to finish very strong in the second half. Why? Because we refused to give in to the defenses and stayed with the run. We eventually wore down the opposition. I know we aren't built to do that on the Oline right now, but we are giving up far too easily. Just my opinion.

The run to Miles Austin was horrible. Just run Murray or Choice if Felix can't go. You don't run a dive out of the i formation with your your WR because there is a good chance he might get killed and FUMBLE. I believe this is exactly what happened.

JG likes to roll the dice, he wants to do it his way. We can only hope it all works out.

Don't think this O-line is going to wear anybody down, except perhaps the poor QB forced to work with the O-line.

That OL + Moose made a HUGE difference back then.

I'm not saying this team could do the same things that team could do. I'm simply saying we're giving up on the run IMO. You've got to stick with it every now and then and we have not shown the propensity to do it with Garrett as the head coach or offensive coordinator.

Garrett is still a rookie coach in my mind. He deserved the win last week, so I give him credit there. His players stepped up for him in spite of adversity throughout the game. So the jury is still out.

I thought Dallas would run block the Jets better on the edge, but it didn't happen. That surprised me. Today was disappointing in that respect, the run blocking. Getting behind didn't help matters, either. Dallas has to get points inside the 5, to open that game.

Just be patient with the run blocking, because we have seen the young, athletic line do it in training camp and pre-season. The run blocking has no where to go but up. It's been a tough start, but the run defenses have been top 6 and on the road. Again, the Cowboys just changed 4 offensive line positions.

I have no doubt that it would have been terrible with the old offensive line from last year, and there would be no hope or upside, either. There was no upside to that old, big, and slow line. Getting younger and more athletic was the way to go. It's going to pay off this year and for the years to come. 14 games to go....

I hope Phil Costa is o.k.

All hail, Tyron!

I'm sure most are gonna want to celebrate that big come from behind victory like we just won the Super Bowl, but in reality, we were HIGHLY disorganized in all 3 facets of the game (ala Wade's teams) and eeked out a win against a very, very bad NFL team today.

There was some awful playcalling today, and Garrett almost got Romo killed AGAIN in another strong effort to end our season prematurely.

Lack of coaching schemes for protection, no running plays whatsoever, and that cute little pitch play to Austin on 3rd and 2 to help set up a sketchy 47 yard FG attempt.

I think this team has top five talent, but I'm growing a little tired of falling victim to Garrett's learning curve as a coach. Even Jimmy made a great point this morning about how Garrett essentially set Romo up for failure in the 4th quarter last week vs. NY.

I'm not sure why Garrett gets such a pass while Romo was essentially held at the stake the entire week.

I thought this stuff was supposed to change when Wade was fired...

You're out of touch with reality. Having said that I at times wonder about his play calling, too. But you have to look at what his offenses have done. I don't like his not running at the goal line. I don't like him getting away from the running game when its going well. Etc. But overall the guy gets it done and is considered by many to be one of the best offensive minds in the business. Also witness the overall increased quality of our team since last year. Surely you're not missing that.

It's not Garrett's fault Romo tried to run it into the EZ. The blocked punt is not on him unless it continues to happen. The INT is on Dez and Tony not Garrett.

Garrett is not perfect and his playcalling could improve but overall he's doing a great job with this team.

Let's review this again in three years.

How about, go find another team to cheer for ? Good lord.

Why should he go find another team to cheer for? Because he's realistic and brings up a valid point about our play since JG took over?

Good Lord indeed..

Don't flatter yourself. I post in many threads and respond to quite a few other posters. But feel free to bleat away.

Yes. One must blindly accept all things or else find another team. CZ rule #23

I'm not the least bit flattered because I don't want yet another shadow from that place. I say again, ignore me, please.

With Wade Phillips this game would have been a blow-out loss after that missed field goal. It took the wind out of the offense just as it has in years past, but this time, the team kept fighting and believing. And, that is a direct reflection on the head coach. The great thing about this win is not that the effort to come back resulted in a win, but that they know they can win if they don't give up.

Overcoming adversity builds character and confidence. Two things this team has lacked.

The only thing I can fault Garrett for is not hiring an OC that calls plays correctly 100% of the time according to the Cbz OC's.

That is true.. but a problem alot of us had with the Wade era were all the little mistakes that a well prepared football team shouldn't be making, and since JG has taken over i still see the silly mistakes. The fumbles, i think we had 4 more this week, the missed FG from XP range, just sloppy play and confusion at times that i was hoping we would have cleaned up. Also, the playcalling continues to be an issue.

There are things there that should be getting better.. that being said, im glad we were able to stay focused and come back and get the W this game.

Heres my take........which of coarse is the correct one. ;)

Garrett as a head coach is already VERY VERY good. Like his attention to detail,...what he expects from the team and individual players.

BUT.......Give Garrett an offensive coordinator like say, ummmmmmmmm PAUL CHRYST ;) and not only does Garrett move into the ranks EXCELLENT head coaches, but the team makes the leap also.

Like Garretts scheme, like alot of his play calls,......Do not like his lack of a running game and the speed in which he abandons it at times. Also once in a blue moon he tends to get too cute,.....like on the third and 2 outside pitch to Austin yesterday that Miles fumbled. ALMOST cost us the game.

Im VERY happy with Garrett as our head coach,......just think he would be even better with an O.C is all.

Yes, I still love Garrett. This team WILL have a lot of success under him!!!!

Even when you are only averaging 2 or 3 yards per carry it is of utmost importance that you do not give up on the running game. You HAVE TO have the threat of the run to win,...PERIOD.

Case in point........we only ran the ball like 7 times in the whole 1st half. Ran it 14 times in the second half. Those little runs may not have been all that successful yardage wise, but from the standpoint of what they set up later in the game they were HUGE!

The Big play to Holly that sealed the deal,.......we came out in a heavy run formation, our first offensive play of overtime,........anybody think that play would have been nearly as successful without at least the threat of the run?? NOPE....NOT HARDLY! The threat of the run is what quite literally MADE THAT PLAY WORK!

You have to keep picking away at the run game...........least if you wanna win anything of importance. ;)
