Still no talks between Chargers, Bosa

The Chargers and defensive end Joey Bosa still aren’t talking. Actively or otherwise.

The two sides haven’t talked since Thursday and, per a source with knowledge of the discussions (or lack thereof), they didn’t talk on Monday. With Bosa’s camp making the last move, the ball remains in the Chargers’ court.

On the surface, there’s little to discuss. Relying on team precedent, the Chargers remain dug in on the position that Bosa’s contract must include offset language and defer a major chunk of the signing bonus into 2017. Relying on precedent as to the top picks in the draft since 2012, Bosa’s camp wants either no offset language on the guarantee or full payment of the signing bonus in 2016.

Do we know what will happen if Bosa doesn't sign with the Chargers this year? Does he have to go thru draft again next year?

If Bosa chooses not to sign with the Bolts, . the Chargers will either trade him away, or he could re-enter the draft next year.

It's only the first week of training camp.
If we get to after the 3rd game of pre-season and still no signing, then we a real discussion.

By the way, the would not Bosa for Leary and Dez Bryant...let alone Leary and 3rd.

Can't see a trade happening, but the 3rd overall is probably worth a mid 1st next year, plus a 1st and maybe a 3rd next year.
Maybe Buffalo wants Bosa for Lawson and next year's 1st...who knows.

Rookies should not be allowed to hold out IMO. The NFL needs to work on that soon.

How could they manage that? You can't force someone to work.

Not sure but there should be a pay structure for every round and pick. X amount salary with X amount signing bonus with no negotiations.

I know you can't force someone to work but this isn't the real world. They got drafted into everyone's dream job. If a player doesn't like it, there should be penalties. You want to hold out, fine but he loses money when he is re-drafted, can no longer get that same guaranteed amount.

I don't know, just tired of some greedy players who have never played a down while demanding certain things......earn it first!

The contracts are daily fixed, but not entirely. There is room in the details--not to total dollars--to negotiate.
I'd be fine if that was removed to, but that would happen in league / Union talks next time.
I'm sure agents wouldn't like it

The Chargers are idiots, but they're not going to lose a top 3 pick over language in a contract that's not going to come into play, anyway.

1st preseason game is a matter of days away and your #1 pick hasn't even stepped foot on a field as a member of the team yet. Yea, I'd be concerned too.

Could you imagine if this was Dallas & EE?

And while I came out against the Chargers, Bosa's just as stupid if he lets the timing of bonus payments (which are 100% guaranteed anyway) and offset language keep him from getting ready for the season.
