A lot of you say he is next head coach of the Boys, I sure hope not. He is overated and OU will lose several games this year. His vaunted D is getting ripped by the Huskies.

Side note- I am an OU grad.

I think Weis might have something to say about that.....

I've thought this for a while.

In 2000, Stoops had a team loaded with talent and also had GREAT assistants surrounding him. Guys like Brent Venables, Mike Stoops, Mark Mangino, Mike Leach ... it was a bit unreal with the talent on that staff he had.

Now with those coaches gone (except Venables), this team has fallen to mediocrity.

The last thing I'll ever do is gush over the Sooners. I can't stand the cheaters.

I don't think OU will end up being a great team by any stretch, but they are solid and as long as they have Peterson (thank God he'll go pro after this season), they have a chance. Thompson just has to not screw up. The OU D has been overrated for years and I think that Venerables is overrated as well. But they have too many elite athletes to not be good.

I do find a couple things funny. Peterson said he picked OU over Texas because he wanted to win National championships. AND Stoops hasn't won a national championship with his own players. He took Blakes players and turned thim into Champions, but he can't seem to do that with his own guys.

I am far from gushing, and they have looked less than stellar thus far this year, that is for certain.

But for people to jump on forums and talk about a d getting ripped when they are leading a ball game 30-13 is rediculous.

I am an OU fan and your issues about who's players won this or that is silly also, I congratulate you on last season and I think your team will be good again this year, but enjoy it while you can you have been dominated by teh "cheating" Sooners for years and the worm will turn once again.

Except I'm not a Longhorn fan.

Personally, I think (well, mostly hope as the NCAA has a list of untouchable programs and OU football is likely on that list along with tOSU and ND) we are nearing time for infractions of the Sooners. We'll see what that does for them.

When I posted it was not 30-13, if you had half a brain you would have known this. Washington has won only 1 game in the past two years on the road and except for a fumble they have played OU pretty close.

I am pretty sure they called there own infractions this year and cost themselves a shot.

Their starting QB and an Olineman were too stupid to play the game. But I won't whine about it, they will be a decent team this year but not great, not elite for sure.

Stoops is overrated. Parcells is overrated. Belicheck is overrated. Cowher is overrated.

You know, coaches don't make tackles. All they can do is coach the guys they have. In some cases, they can try to go out and get more talent...

I always get a kick out of all of the experts who talk about what they could do. Personally, I think Bob Stoops is a heck of a coach. I don't think he would be a good fit in Dallas though. I think there are some coaches who could have won with OU's talent. Some wouldn't have. But I think Stoops did a great job of changing the culture and making OU football a huge thing again. For a while, it wasn't...

In the same way, I think Parcells has done a great job in Dallas. For some reason he doesn't get as much respect as I think he deserves either.

Mike Leach coached the offense in the 1999 season. He went to TTech in 2000 and Mangino led the offense.

After Mangino left, the Sooners still had one of the most prolific offenses in college football history with Long as the OC and White as the QB.

I agree the D has lacked a little spark following the departure of Mike Stoops.

Really, though, it's hard to complain about Stoops' tenure at OU. He won a NC in his second year, and had them in the big game two additional years. That's pretty good by any count.

You really want to credit anything Chuck Long did in his tenure as OC?

Go ask 10 Sooner fans what they think of Chuck Long ... 9 of them will tell you how glad they are he is at SDSU.

Fact of it is, IIRC, 19 of those 22 starters from the 2000 squad were not even recruited by Stoops, but by the 'idiot' John Blake. Granted he was never HC material ... NO ONE can deny how he recruits, quite simply one of the best recruiters in the country ... period.

Now with Stoops having his own talent pool in Norman, mediocrity has set in. Gone are the days of the 7th year (or was it 10th :) ) senior Jason White, now relying on Paul Thompson. Sad part is, it gets worse after he leaves. :laugh2:

You totally missed my point. I wasn't crediting Chuck Long, I was crediting Stoops for putting together a good system that could survive coordinators leaving. My point was that, even after Leach left, the offense was still prolific, even with two different QBs including Long.

Blake may have recruited many (but certainly not all -- Heupel?) of those players, but Stoops got WAY more out of them than Blake ever could. And I don't know how you can blame Stoops' recruiting... he's had top 5 classes almost every year.

Fact of the matter is, with a couple of different ball-bounces, they could easily have had two more National Championships. It'll be a sad day in Sooner-land if Stoops ever leaves.
