Okay, I, and I'm sure a lot others are getting really tired of all the Chicken Little threads going around here with people already throwing in the towel on next season.

Look, in my opinion, the Cowboys have shown commendable restraint by not going out and overpaying average to below-average players ridiculous amounts of money like many other clubs have done the past couple days.

There is still a lot of talent out there. I don't think the Cowboys are being too cheap, but there's no reason to go out and throw their money away.

We already saw what happened last year when they went crazy in free agency. We signed Rivera, Ferguson and Henry really early and spent a lot of money on them. In all honesty, I don't think they were huge difference makers last year, with the exception of Henry for about half the season.

If Dallas comes away from free agency with filling some needs by not signing blockbuster deals, but getting good, smart players, I'll be happy with it.

I know it's been said many times before, but New England created a pretty darn good time by doing the exact same thing.

Per Dale.........

All the free safety prospects are still out there -- Hope, Coleman, Law and Milloy (if you consider Law and Milloy free safety prospects).

At tackle, the candidates seem to still be out there, as well -- including Fabini.

Sowald is still available at fullback.

Peterson, and for that matter, Ayodele are available at linebacker, as is McGinest.

Vinatieri is still available at kicker.

I really don't think too many of the guys we have targeted have been signed. Arrington was a little bit of a pipe dream for me, as was Bentley; with the exception of kicker, where Longwell and Bryant are gone, everyone I had pegged are pretty much still available.

People aren't looking at the players being signed. Longwell and Bentley were the only ones we really could have used. The players we need are still available.

I wanted one big name with a big contract named Bentley
and a kicker, any kicker of Longwell, Bryant, Nedney..just not Vjerk,
a cheap vet FS, and a LB probably Ayodele (sp?)
I thought that was a pretty realistic offseason FA and we'd still have money left over (at least 6-8 mil) to sign rookies and redo the contracts of some of our studs.

Now, Bentley is gone (so is Hutchinson) the only big name PB OL out there
Longwell, Nedney, even Bryant are gone so there's only 2 kickers left and one of them is a jerk and can't kickoff
Ayodele is 1 of about 1 FA LBs left that would probably do well in our defense and he has now left Dallas without signing.

There aren't many options left out there for us to upgrade some serious need positions. I'm not terribly worried about FS, there are TONS in the draft and still some vets that aren't too expensive.
As for OL, I'm sure we'll bring in one more lunchpail, unexciting guy and the draft is pretty deep so we'll probably draft at least one OL.
Its a deep LB draft also but adding one proven guy in FA was a need IMO, esp while losing Fajita. 3-4 needs LB depth. After Ayodele, who is there? Peterson, nice but you're talking crazy money.
Kicker, options left aren't exciting...Vineteri's price is 3 mil. Is Vjerk an option since he's a jerk and can't kickoff? Some good kickers in the draft but it'll cost us a 3rd rounder or a 4th (that we don't have) or if we're really lucky just a 5th. I like Huston a lot, but c'mon...a rookie kicker?

I honestly wouldn't be opposed to a rookie kicker. Providing he had a really great college career.

that would be next year. Mason Crosby will be in the NFL next year. He's a senior at Colorado.
