You know my thoughts. If I could have one sports wish it would be to free the Cowboys of the Jones family. He will always be something you have to overcome to win anything. Which is the sign of any quality GM.
Write it down. Jerry was uncomfortable with Jimmy and Big Bill. He's comfortable with Garrett. You don't need to know any more than that to know how much power the head coach has here.
What decision does he think needs to be made? Our starting quarterback is nursing a broken collarbone, the defense is playing lights out since ATL, and our star receiver just returned to the lineup after three practices in full with a fresh backup QB.
Puzzling narrative.

I knew better than to click on a thread with Strahan's name in the title.
Pretty clearly, Jason wants to be making the decisions that would lead to wins, and Jerry and Stephen aren't letting him. I would think Strahan made that really clear. Honestly, I'm not sure how anybody can watch the season and *not* conclude that's what's going on.
Not really. That's a horsecrap opinion, if that's what he really said in context.
Paraphrase: "You get the sense the head coach isn't making any of the main decisions on that team." This was followed by a discussion negatively comparing Jerry to Kraft, with special disdain for JJ's radio show.

I kinda call bs on that, if Jerry were making the calls Dmac would have been the starter from day 1 guaranteed.
Honestly I feel exactly the opposite of Strahan. That narrative is old, tired and needs to be put down like Old Yeller.
I am more down on Garrett now because I feel like this is his team finally. He constructed this roster. He may not be calling the plays, but it is his offense. He isn't calling the defense, but he wanted a bend, don't break defense that didn't take chances. This is Garrett's team top to bottom.

I guess you're not familiar with company meetings and agendas moving forward. Maybe not. Its to easy to blame somebody rather than look at it rationally and unemotionally.Well, when your owner says Cassel should get a chance to start before your head coach announces it, what would that lead one to think?
Look, I'm not going to lie. I had high hopes for Garrett, and I do like the direction the franchise is headed in terms of its emphasis on the draft and building the trenches.
But I have this overarching feeling that Jerry was simply searching for a coach who could let him be him and one who simply was happy to coach the Cowboys. I also think he was looking for his "Tom Landry," a coach he could trust and one he could grow into a great coach.
He found that coach in Garrett. And this may disappoint the "Fire Garrett" crowd, but he's here to stay. He's the Marvin Lewis of Dallas. He works well with Jerry and as long as he doesn't, basically, hit on the owner's wife, he's probably looking at a long tenure as the Cowboys coach.
I have not been impressed with him this year nor his coaching decisions or his ability to coach us to one win during Romo's absence. But this was a Super Bowl or bust season, really. And we aren't nearly as healthy as we thought we would be. So ...
I'm willing to write this season off (I'll leave a sliver of hope seeing how bad the NFC East is) with the knowledge that Dallas will get a few more draft picks and, with health, contend for a Super Bowl in 2017.
But I'm not even going to consider Garrett getting canned because it's not going to happen any time soon.

Wonder how McCarthy would do without Rodgers, Belichek without Brady, Sean Payton without Brees. etc etc.
The list goes on for all the "brilliant" coaches who are one injury away from being JAC.
I think that Linehan has a lot of influence on the Offense and I think that Marinelli has a lot of influence on the Defense. I think that there are only a few head coaches in the NFL who are good enough or smart enough to influence coordinators in a meaningful way. Garrett might not be one of those guys, I don't know. Doesn't mean he can't be successful. I don't really think Jimmy was that kind of a head coach either. Norv ran his Offense back in the day and Dave Wanstedt ran the Defense. The difference that I see in Jimmy and Jason Garrett is that Jimmy would take control of a critical series and make the hard call. He was usually more right, in those situation, then he was wrong. I haven't seen that form Jason Garrett to this point (or at least it hasn't been reported on). Either way, I don't know that Garrett is a lot different, in that regard, then a lot of head coaches in today's NFL.
