Strong Article on Romo

This board could use a huge dose of some optimism. This team will be good.

What this fan base needs more than optimism at this point is positive results, by whatever means. Be it offense, defense, kicking game, Romo, or Jerry. We don't need another season of coulda, woulda, shoulda... We need a playoff season where we flex some serious muscle.

Still, speaking as a "Romo basher", this article just emphasizes what's so bewildering about him. He absolutely can be clutch and is quite alright in that regard, but for some reason he just doesn't come through in seemingly the biggest moments. At least thus far. But at the same time, it brings me back to the side of hope rather than apathy.

Ah that sums it up well.. but I have personally lost all faith. When I see the same mistakes being made year in and year out that tells me that there is a learning problem. Some things just aren't fixable. You can't squeeze blood out of a turnip.. you know?

Fantastic article. Really just great stuff that actually compares and contrasts Romo with his peers. For Cowboys fans, this information shouldn't be anything new-- this much should have been obvious already. But it's nice to have something to quantify it.

The bold is a classic part of the debate IMO. Said another way. "Yeah, I read all the stats that say otherwise, but something just keeps telling me those stats fairly represent all the other QB's in the league, except for Romo." His critics just want to believe that there is some fatal flaw with Romo that is simply not visible in the numbers. There is no debating that. There just isn't. It won't matter what you say or show someone because its simply a deeply routed belief that you cannot change.

C'est la vie.

Ummm. Will the Romo haters plz speak up. This article is making your arguments look very foolish.

Wow, this article is sooo good:

Now we had a ballgame at 21-18 and all eyes on Romo with 3:33 left. After an incredible late-season run in the fourth quarter to get this far, he saved one of his worst plays for the second snap of the drive

And then you have this gem ... classic:

This continues to be Romo’s problem. He’s good enough, often great even, to put Dallas in these positions to do something, but it just seems like the errors come when everyone’s watching.
If only he could choke when few are watching like a few other quarterbacks have mastered

Telling that you look at the few mistakes and ignore the majority of his plays which are good to outstanding. Oh, but he makes the mistakes in such crucial moments, yet all games are crucial. And you totally ignore the play of the other 53 players. Very telling.

This is my number one argument/position on Romo (this article covers them all):
Romo: The Only Undrafted QB Criticized Like a No. 1 Pick
Enough said.

"Let’s not forget Romo’s 100.7 career passer rating in the fourth quarter and overtime (playoffs included) is the highest among all quarterbacks since 2000 (minimum 150 attempts)."

That says it all for me, because your own defense doesn't factor into that.

If anything, he did it despite his defense, which historically hasn't given him the short fields that would result in more TD and boost his numbers.

This is probably the most sensible article I've ever read about him.

For anyone who thinks an NFL player intentionally saves up mistakes to intentionally use at critical moments (i.e., "OK, my team is now facing a do-or-die situation, I think this would be a good time to throw that game-ending interception I've been wanting to throw all week long,") get some professional mental help.

Dallas had a fourth-quarter lead or tie in eight of those 10 losses.

How is that a pro Romo/Cowboys argument? That just speaks to how we blew leads late

The defense has to allow points for a team to come back. I don't think you saw where the causality lies.

I know, my point was in the article, the author said he was defending America's team for being "choke artists", yet bringing up all of those leads blown defensively (namely in 2011, down the stretch) he's making a case for the team being chokers.

Ahh fair enough, sir.

But, IF Romo ever does win a SB, he will be the first one to say, "i will gladly eat crow"...or, "i knew all along that Romo would win a SB"...or some other hogwash to swim backwards from where he stands now. He will want to party with the rest of us that believe in Romo. So, will all the other haters...it's a totally win-win situation for them.

"By losing in prime time in Week 17 with the NFC East on the line for the second-straight year, Romo and the Cowboys continue to give the haters just enough ammunition. That lasting impression of the season is all those people need, because they don’t care about the full picture."

This quote fits you like a new suit!

Unless you are blowing teams out in the playoffs, it takes a lot to win them. Not just good QB play. Watching some of those Americas Games on the NFLN shows you that.

From the article:

The only reason they were in playoff contention in Week 17 was a league-high five comeback wins in the fourth quarter in 2012.

I thought Andrew Luck had 7 comback wins in the 4th quarter last season?
