Between the spygate cheating, banned substance suspension, cheap shots on the field, and now going after their own season ticket holders, the Patriots come off as one of the most arrogant and dislikeable franchises in professional sports.

They have more to lose than they realize.

Washington's been scalping their own tickets on stubhub. They discontinued a ton of corporate tickets a few years ago, most notably from the Washington Post but instead of distributing them to people on the famous, or infamous, waiting list, Little Danny Bonaparte has discovered another way to gouge a buck out of his fans. They get multiple times the face value then shear them some more with parking and concessions.

Does the salary cap catch revenue from a team scalping its own tickets?

Well I think this is something they did correct. These brokers buy up everything and screw the middle american who couldn't come close to afford tickets at the prices they sell them for on StubHub. I applaud them for what they're doing. Way to go New England :yourock:

I actually think it is within Pats rights to go after scalpers of season tickets, and I applaud them for doing so.

If they are not going to the game, then sell the ticket for fair market value or give it away (well, ok sell it for fair market value). Tickets are being driven way too high due to guys who buy season tickets more so they can make a HUGE profit rather than actually being a fan that wants to watch their team play themselves. This is a business for many, not just well since I cannot go I think I will sell it to some poor fellow who will not have a chance to.

Fair Market vaule is what people will pay for the ticket. If it's set too high, people won't buy it, and the price comes down.

I'm glad places like Stubhub are around. I've been able to get tickets to places I would never have been able to go before.

no that is called scalping.... and of course there are enough rich people who will dish out alot of money that the seller will ask for. Like it or not, the low man will never be able to compete with that, and shouldn't have to since the product does not cost that much to justify that high a price and it is inflated by third party sellers.

Scalping should be illegal as it is in alot of states. If there is resale allowed, which I think would be ok, then put a limit on the profit made.

I know you probably don't know this, but attending a sporting event is not a right. If I have a ticket and I can't use it for whatever reason, why should the government tell me I can't sell it for profit to someone who is willing to spend what I'm asking for? If I'm not able to sell it I'm supposed to eat the cost of the ticket?

I'm not rich, but as I've said before, if it wasn't for Stub Hub I would not have been able to attend various sporting events, because there was no way I could have gotten tickets. Take Stub Hub away and I'm not able to go to those places. That's fair to you?

At issue is the Patriot's policy prohibiting season-ticket holders from reselling their tickets. Although the team has shown a willingness to flout NFL rules against videotaping signals of opposing coaches, it expects its season-ticket holders to either attend every game themselves or give the ducats away for free.

.

:laugh2: :laugh2:

Rarely do things make me laugh out loud, but this sure did. Good stuff !!!!

Note:

I paid $1,000 for two prime tickets circa 1996 to see Dallas/San Fran in Dallas. Clearly a season ticket holder had sold them. It's a prevalent practice NFL wide.

Will be interested to see if this is enforced.

That sucks you had to pay so much money for what turned out to be such a horrible game.

I never said it was, just like I never said buying prepared food, having clean water, and garbage pickup available is a right.

thought they were used to get into a football game.

who is talking government... I this was league rules, or atleast team rules or stipulations when purchasing a season ticket. I think using the same standard you seem to be using, if you want to buy the tickets from the Patriots, then you agree to the terms, if not then you don't buy. That is their right.
If Pepsi were to say that you can only buy can of Pepsi if you register with them first and hand over keys to your car, you can do one of two things - buy the can and give keys to car and register, otherwise don't buy. There is no other choice. You cannot hand someone else's car keys to them or give false info because you would be committing fraud. Obviously a dramatization, but you see where I am going at.

Well, no one said you cannot sell it. I said I personally would see no problem with you being able to sell the ticket for cost and a little profit. But at worst and if you cannot sell it, you bought the season tickets knowing this was one stipulation. Buy or don't buy - you choose.

See above. Who said you cannot sell tickets on stubhub. Does it really cost you $875 dollars to cover the cost of stubhub... I would understand costs of stubhub and a small profit be included in the cost of the ticket. What I am really against is inflated prices which we call scalping.

Give me a break, if someone is willing to pay it, then the price is NOT inflated. Even in states with anti-scalping laws, like I live in, scalping is common practice and not likely to be stopped by any of this idealistic BS any time soon.

LOL we are more in agreement than you think. I know laws are broken although they are in place. And personally I feel no pain for those that get caught in it.

But no matter how much that does happen, where in that truth does it say that because that does go on, it is ok.

You can take your chances on buying a season ticket, if you resell it and then your season ticket status gets revoked due to it, then you live with it because you knew the rule when you bought the thing.

Lets all forget that that was made clear upfront. Too late to complain about it after the fact.

Some people just can't afford to pay high prices and it upsets them.
