Also called a Corner rout
Yeah, terminology changes from philosophy to philosophy. Originally it was called a flag because you turned towards the 1st down flag marker. Each route can have a different name depending on the coach/philosophy.

Obviously, I learned it as a flag route. Corner is just as correct.

Generally a post is run to the middle of the field. When you run to the sideline it is called a flag route by some.

Exactly. It's simple: The post is in the center of the endzone. The flags -- going back to when there were actual flags where now there are foam pylons -- are in the corner of the endzone.

Wow you're old

Flags? Actual real life flags? lol

Just messing around. I grew up learning outs, ins, hitches, curls, posts, corners, wheels, corners, fades, flies and my favorite, DOGs (down, out and go).

As most of you know I'm just a football observer, never played the game, but did play baseball all through High School and did not make the College team.

With that said, what is the difference between a post route and a skinny post?

(please be easy on me, ok?)

:laugh2:

I have a question.

What is a "Walk off" home run.

I played baseball but I never hit one.

Thanks.

Post, Skinny post, Corner.

Skinny posts aren't necessarily ran towards the goal post.

This is the most ghetto-**** I've ever seen. :laugh2: What the heck is at the top of your drawing?

See, I have heard all of those too.

Fly patterns are called go patterns by some. It changes from time period to time period, or coach to coach. I've even heard the hitch called a come back. It just depends.

I used to like the post route in my days, but I think the best deep route to run is the corner route from the slot position, you basically get up on that safety, and it's over.

They started using "walk off" in all sports now.

I heard someone say Billups shot a walk off free throw vs the Celtics the other night.

Kind of stupid IMO.

Never heard that term, but I guess it would be if the bases were loaded and the pitcher walked the batter causing a run to be scored with two outs to go and the outfield leading the game by a marginal score in the bottom of the 9th, therefore causing the next batter that might not be a "homerun hitter" to be next at bat with the probability that the pitcher will strike him out, therefore winning and ending the game.

That's the best that I can think of...and besides that, guess what?

BASEBALL SUCKS!!

EDIT: Probably Kilyin is right....

Exactly, all depends who is your coach and time period you played I guess :)

Our hitch was 6 back to 4 so a comeback makes perfect sense.

I personally like the ring of a GO route better than a fly.

:lmao2:

Its a final at bat that ends a game.

Walk off meaning after the hit you just walk off the field cause its game OVA.

Could that route be called a "button hook and go" route?

Button hook... kind of I guess, leave off the go part.

The GO is just a straight pattern down the field.

I always thought my curl patterns were like button hooks (we didn't call them button hooks though). You round off your pattern instead of making a cut.

A hitch you simply run to 6 yards, stop, and comeback to 4 yards to create some separation.

The curl was the same but instead of stopping you round off the pattern, 6 yards back to 4.

I do too on go. I didn't play WR much, but I liked running the go because I was fast. You look even faster if you catch someone off guard and blow by them. If you drop one though, man do you look stupid. Nothing better than being past the coverage.
