...We should be running lots of deep slants and crosses, in my opinion, since they rely more on accurate zip than touch. TWill is a better receiver when he only has to worry about defenders to one side, too.

I agree. If we can get them open, these are routes he can throw, and they're obviously good routes for Williams.

He's a backup quarterback. What do you expect him to hit every reciever that's open? If he was able to do that Weeden would be a starter. He's not.

Of course not............ but when you go an entire freaking game without getting any plays down the field, especially when tape shows he had multiple opportunities, then it's time to lay some blame at the feet of the backup and maybe consider finding another back up to do his job.

They've said all along that they like that Dunbar on a LB matchup. And when the one thing that's going to get you beat is turning the ball over, it shouldn't really be a surprise. Especially against the design of that ATL defense.

You can't really blame the guy for doing what the plan was for him to do. You might not like the plan. Or you might have a higher risk tolerance than BW does, but the message coming out of that game has been consistent from everybody involved with the game plan. You have to accept that they're all lying, and that Weeden's both lying and yet somehow inexplicably defensive for anything else to be the case.

Just wait for our in denial Weeden apologists to also attempt to discredit Sturm for seeing what everyone else see's!

Anyone can look at the game tape and see the obvious, outside receivers open, seams open but the ball is usually checked down or thrown away.

Captain check down is indeed scared. Honestly, with reservation, I can't wait to see how Weeden performs this Sunday night. The leash has to be short.

Do you usually take what Jerry and Jason say as gospel? I sure as heck don't. They aren't going to say anything that can be used by another team or turned by the media into a soundbite. Despite some fans evidently wanting to hear it, they aren't going to tell us what their strategy really was, denigrate their team or throw players under the bus. And I don't blame them one bit.

Nice analysis and so true. One golden rule, is never negotiate/ end communicate through the media, as they always look for the catchy headline. They many times are only looking for viewership, and not real reporting. Those days are long gone.

Seeing that we did have some open opportunities at least renews a little faith in our potential going forward. That one shot of witten very open was a real missed chance of at least a try for 3 if not an outright 7 by him.

The tape doesn't lie. The reactions of Witten and Williams at times when they were totally open down the field and Weeden quickly dumped off to a TB doesn't lie.

I absolutely believe what's coming out of Valley Ranch is largely BS. Sure, I think they wanted to get Dunbar on the Atlanta LBs and there's nothing wrong with that strategy but you can't do that an entire game. I think they knew they had some plays they could make down the field but Weeden just missed them because as his career has shown, he's often just checking down. He did that in Cleveland and he's done that here.

And Weeden both shoveling BS and being defensive absolutely fit. Regardless of the game plan, Weeden's being attacked for an apparently inability to get the ball down the field. So absolutely, he would be defensive whether the game plan called for this or for that.

The tape isn't lying, it's getting misinterpreted.

You're entitled to your opinion. Even directly after the game, though, players were saying the same thing about what the game plan was. Out of curiosity, why is it you think Brandon Weeden is doubling-down this week on the story if the tape doesn't lie? Don't you think that makes him look redonkulous in front of his own coaches and the players who surely must know better?

Well now I'm even more concerned because if that was the "plan" and they stuck with the plan even after Atlanta adjusted in the 2nd half, I'm even more concerned about our coaching staff than I was before.

Your Weeden defense is bordering on bizarre at this point.

So the tape is being misinterpreted. Got it. So all those routes that were run deeper than 10 yards were just decoy routes. That the game plan was to simply ignore any WR or TE running more than 10 yards down the field and instead force the ball to the TBs and slot WRs and TEs running short routes. So when Witten is running wide open down the seam and then throws up his hands as to why his QB never noticed him, he should have known better - that the "plan" was to just throw the ball to Dunbar on a 3 yard in all along.

Well, ****. Apparently Brandon Weeden is being held back by an incompetent coaching staff that wouldn't let him show off his ability to throw the ball down the field and instead forced him to throw a **** ton of 3-5 yard passes.

Guess what? If all of this is true, then we have bigger problems than we thought.

I told you guys in the off season it was a huge mistake rolling with this guy again. He can't even win us one game at home when we're up 14 pts. He is a mental midget and a total loser. Cassell Save Us.

I'll never believe that the coaches intended for Weeden to ignore Witten and throw short to Dunbar on 2nd and 26. Witten is in the exact same line of sight as Dunbar so it's not as if Weeden would have to scan the entire field to find him. Weeden is not under any pass rush pressure on this play.

There is no defense for Weeden on this play. Nothing to "misinterpret." And lack of touch is no excuse. That is a throw that the worst NFL quarterback should be able to make. There are only two options. Weeden played very poorly in the 2nd half, or the coaches are idiots and asked him to do these things. Neither is good news.

Seeing those receivers that wide open and Weeden getting the ball out before the play even develpes is just depressing.

On the one where the TE runs the post and he goes underneath, there is a defender in the passing lane.

The underneath coverage had inside leverage to take away the in cut? You see that right?

I'm sure they wanted him to be conservative, but I can't imagine any scenario where they wanted him to avoid Witten on this play.
