Sunday Game Day Thread

That was one of the worst PI call I have ever seen. First of all, it should have been offensive PI if anything. But it definitely was not defensive PI. To call that penalty in that situation was a total choke by the refs. I doubt it would have changed the outcome of the game given the way Goff was playing but still what a terrible call in a year when the refs have been really bad.
Even with zero contact, Brown couldn't catch it anyway. It was high and outside.

I was watching a lot of games yesterday...and I have never seen such cockamemie (is that how you spell it? :) ) calls across the board.

I'm no consiracy guy, and I believe in human error and stupidity. But I don't think it helps the NFL to be so nkdly in bed with Vegas. Running score numbers pregame...and heavy ads during?

They don't even bother to hide it anymore. Something's rotten!

Detroit going for it on all of those 4th downs was pretty silly. That was a defensive, field position game. Dan Campbell made decisions like it was more of a free-wheeling shootout type game. He failed to "read the room" as the cliche goes.

Look a Zack Baun. He is a star playing for the Eagles. Hunt is playing better than I thought he could coming out of college.
I knew Philly couldn't keep the same defense after their super bowl play, and Baun is a prime example. I thought for all the guys they lost, they were kind of stupid paying that money to keep Baun on their team.

I remember last night watching the game where Baun brought down a running back in the backfield for a loss. Perhaps it's just me and not loving all the decisions the cowboys make, but when was the last time one of our linebackers brought down a running back in the backfield? I could have missed it due to my attitude, but I don't remember seeing it. PLEASE let me know I'm wrong.

Keep in mind that they won most of their regular season games last year by one score. How did that work out for them?
Last year their defense was good pretty much the whole year.

I just find it interesting that for the start of this season, their defense sucked and they still won games.

Our defense sucks, and we lose games. Reality is our offense is probably better than philly's offense per stats per scoring and yardard.

that is not accurate

It happened before the defender jumped offsides. It was his hand that Steen was patting: Same as this event that happened in 2022. If the defender has any body part in the neutral zone, the Olineman can touch him for an offsides, as was called on Fowler here

There’s a difference in the Fowler play and last night’s. The OT in the Fowler play did not make a forward movement; Fowler simply jumped and contact was made. Last night, the OG moved his hand forward inducing the DL to jump and contact ensued. The offense cannot make an illegal move to induce the defense to jump.

I’m not of the camp that the refs are skewed to the Eagles. They’re simply equal opportunity bad. The Lions lost because of their own failures, including the inability to handle the Eagles’ rush.

Holy cow.

The Lions fans aren't whining nearly as much as this fanbase who didn't even have their team playing

And after the refs literally gave us a win against the Lions a couple years ago that ended their season.... nobody here was concerned about the poor Lions then at all!!! LOL

Lions 5 penalties for 48 yards, Eagles 9 penalties for 78 yards. Zebras definitely in the Eagles pockets...
When will people stop doing this? This is the most ignorant way to discuss referring in any sport. Why? Because not every single call is even. Context matters. Also, none of this shows the no-calls, which are many times much more important than the calls made.

Philly for some years now get away with holding constantly. Go look at Hurts runs, so many the Eagles OL and receivers are allowed to hold blatantly to make the seal for Hurts to take off. And allowed to hold to create a cleaner pocket for Hurts. None of this is in the penalty report. Eagles got away with blatant holds all night in game 1, many of them having a lot of importance. They are also allowed to ignore formation rules for the tush push and allowed to false start constantly on that play.

Chiefs get all the mainstream whining about ref help but the Eagles are right there. We went from the Patriots all those years to now the Chiefs and now the Eagles.

Same for the NBA. Lakers, Spurs, Heat got all the calls and no-calls. It's much easier to win games when you have the talent plus the refs on your side.

Gave us the game, you mean by calling the correct call? Meathead Dan Campbell tried to get cute at the end and it failed miserably. Refs called it out. And he double downs and goes for 2 again and fails. He could have just taken the XP and tied the game and went from there. Just like last night, going 0 for 5/6 on 4th downs. He did the same thing in the NFC champ a few years ago against SF.

Dan Quinn is very similar with Washington in his approach.

I'm thinking philly will be a one and out in the playoffs.

From the games I've seen of them, it's not like they win in convincing fashion and their offense really seams to kind of suck for being 8-2. My math might be off, but it looks like they're winning their games by an average of less than 5 points per game. I mean their biggest point differential in a win was against the dysfunctional Giants.

They're just lucky that they play in a division that kind of sucks...

I may be smoking some funny stuff, but I can see the cowboys actually giving them another run for their money this upcoming Sunday with our offense. However, their defense seems to slowly be looking better.
I don't see any team going into Philly and winning. You need to get Philly on the road to have a shot. Who in the NFC is going into Philly and winning? I am not seeing one but still a long time to go in the season, injuries and attrition are a big factor in these seasons. When it comes down to playoffs, I focus on the QBs.

Jordan Love, Caleb Williams, Jared Goff, Sam Darnold, Matt Stafford, Bryce Young, Baker Mayfield, Brock Purdy

Those are going to a combination of your playoff QBs in the NFC. I wouldn't trust one of them to go on the road in Philly and win. Road playoff games are a totally different animal than regular season. The one I might trust the most is Purdy and Stafford, as they have more playoff experience than the rest and have been to the Super Bowl. Stafford got close last year but this season and last, Eagles defense is outstanding. They don't allow the opposing QB to get comfortable. This is what they were missing the prior years when they couldn't win it all. Hurts and this offense doesn't need to go all out to win like our offense does with our terrible defense. Their front office has hit on every move building that defense to what we see now. Eagles defense used to be very soft. Dak had his way with that defense constantly. So did many other teams.

This is a complete lie. The refs in reality tried to give the game to the Lions.

I didn't catch the game last night but what an awful job coaching by Campbell. I know there is a lot of talk about the refs, but Campbell was the one that cost his team. If you leave the game in the hands of the refs hoping for a fair call you've probably set yourself up for failure.

its not just campbell doing this stupid stuff. The Dolphins went for a 4th and three with about 3 minutes left from real close in a TIE game. They didnt make it and were LUCKY they didnt lose.

Going for it on 4th down is now envogue.

WTH was Siriano doing on 4th and 5 from the Lions 30 with a 10 pt lead and about 3 minutes left. Had that crappy PI not happened, I would have loved to see if the Lions could have tied it. As fans, we got screwed by a stupid ref making a HORRIBLE call. That ref literally handed the W to the Iggles with that call.

Right. As has been said 1 million times before, holding could probably be called on every play, and teams would just exchange punts after being in 4th and 40 situations. The refs called plenty of impactful calls on the Eagles last night, including two holding calls on the Eagles O-line versus one on the Lions, that was declined.

Two of their 8 wins have been within the division. You know they have beaten the Bucs, Rams, Chiefs, Packers, Lions, and Vikings..

Are you serious???

Truer words have never been spoken IMO.

After the first interception by philly deep in the Lions territory with philly not being able to get a TD, you kind of got the feeling that it was going to be a defensive battle, and yet the lions head coach played the play calling like it was going to be high score shoot out.

The lions were 3 for 13 on 3rd down conversions and 0 for 5 on 4th down conversions. Think about that. The refs didn't give that game to the birds, but the head coach of the lions did. Ironically enough, the lions out gained the birds in yardage in that game.
