You have a 5 yard penalty on 3rd and 1 at the 1, and....it counts for nothing against the defense? It just becomes 4th and 1? I don't get that.

Yea it's thrid and goal meaning its just half the distance to the goal. Thats how it's always been. That's why getting a offsides penalty that close doesn't really matter
