More than it's worth. We are not one player away on offense or defense.

TRUE ..... I don't think we're any players away ..... SCHEME and HEART are what we need.

You know what else the Giants did? They didn't give up two first round picks to get Osi or Justin Tuck, even Strahan was a 2nd round pick.

You can find "heat bringers" without selling your future. They DID however, draft Aaron Ross in the first round to improve their secondary and Steve Smith (who we last saw catching huge passes in the playoffs) to improve their aging receiver core in the 2nd round. Sounds familiar, I know.

Let's see, We've got Ware, Spencer, Ellis, Canty, Ratliff and even on ocassion Spears to bring heat, do we really need to give up two firsts to get another guy at end or tackle who will end up getting maybe 3-5 sacks the entire season in a 3-4 defense? Probably not.

We've already moved quite a few picks to get the guys we have on our front 7, do we really need to keep doing it?

We need to looks for those guys in the later rounds, just like we found Ratliff.

Bingo was his name-o:D

I'm not disagreeing with you per se, but they also had a pretty weak secondary to begin with. Newman, a healthy Henry and Hamlin if we can retain his services are all already better than anyone in the Giants backfield.

Not to mention the huge amount of cash we will have commited to that secondary when we extend Newman and hopefully grab Hamlin long term to go along with Roy's and Henry's contracts. I really, really don't want to add another first round salary to that mix.

I agree with you we don't need to nor should we blow picks just to move up in the draft - we can find talent where we are hopefully. But I don't see any reason to blow one of our firsts on a CB, I want more pressure, especially up the middle.

Wouldn't turn away a WR though, even though its a pretty weak class.

Well then what did last years Colts and Bears SB prove? I'm all in favor of trying to get more out of the pass rush but this gets to be a bit funny after every season to look at the SB as if it proves something and that our draft should reflect that the past winner of the SB. I like Dorsey and would love Long but moving up to the top 5 would be very costly.
Very true. All of a sudden, not many people are going after D Mac. Now that everyone saw the Giants win a SB with the help of the front 4, they all want pass-rushers.

Let me just say that this Dallas team did pretty well against those guys. I don't know why NE was not able to adjust but Romo and OL did a great job even in the loss till the last minutes when it was obvious that Dallas was in a passing situation.

Two first rounders are too good to give for any unproven player. I want Dallas to be great next year, but I really would like this team to be good for a long time and not start giving away picks like they don't mean much now.

Agreed. You can not ever make picks, or decisions, based soley on the here and now. You have to worry about long term consequences of moves like trading away your picks to move up and get just one player.

What I want to see is Dallas become a very good all around team. Offense, Defense and Special teams. Personally I don't think we are that far off.

Spears and/or Carpenter?? That would free up even more money huh..?

I just do not see anyone giving much up for either of these two--not if they watch the same game film us fans watched.

Yeah it's true they didn't do too well here, but it's about how they will fit with other team's schemes and your confidence in your coacing ability.

Look at the Broncos for an example. They took the entire DL (I beleive) of the Browns and made them look good. Plus, I think Spears was not bad by any stretch. He is not doing well in the eyes of the Cowboys fans because of the expectations we have/had.

This is a great post. THE singular reason the NY Giants are the champs is because of their defensive line pressure and effective blitzes. Look at their secondary...nothing special at all. It is upfront pressure that counts.

i thought Ross was great in the playoffs myself. What if he turns out to be a great player? You know, a lot of people thought Troy Polamalu was a bust early in his rookie season too. So if Ross turns out to be a top notch starting corner (remember the pass he knocked away from Moss?) does that mean that its not all about the pass rush?

....and are either one of these 2 guys, while probably going to be fine players, do we want to give them a 30 + million signing bonus? I doubt it man. I wouldn't. I think they are both really solid, but we already have a TON committed to the d line, don't we.
