Our record could just as easily be 7-1 in the Super Bowl as 5-3. The Colts game and the Jackie Smith game could've gone either way.

Looking through the list of most appearances in the big show, there is not one other team that I would want to change places with. SF has the best win % for the number of appearances they've had, but they were only consistently great for one decade. The Cowboys came on strong in the late Sixties and didn't tail off until the 80's, then strong again in the 90's. The Steelers had a great run in the 70's, pushed again in the early 90's, then lucked out when Big Ben made an ankle tackle to save a TD when The Bus fumbled. They made the most of their appearance though, and got their 5th.

I don't know what it is like to be a fan of another team, so just a little speculation here. I think it would be better to be a Bill's fan than a Vikings fan. Both have gone to the show 4 times, both lost 4times. But at least Buffalo can brag that they are the only team to go 4 years in a row.

Looking at the teams that have never made an appearance, you have to wonder, is it bad ownership, bad coaching, or just bad karma? New Orleans almost broke through last year. If they had played that game in the Dome, I would have bet on them to beat Chicago, but they didn't. The Cards can't even brag about going to an NFC Title game, much less a Super Bowl.

Just random meandering thoughts after the long weekend.

Would you trade our appearances and record for any of the other team's appearances and record?

No I wouldn't but it does eat at me alittle when 49ers fans brag about being 5-0 and being the first team to win a 5th SB. Dallas really needs to get that 6th one first, in a hurry.

one or two plays in any of our losses could have made the difference. Only the win over Pitt was close- all our other wins were total blowouts. If the ball is not tipped against the colts, we win. If Jackie does catch the ball, its a total shootout there. Roger had one last shot in the first loss to Pitt; Knoll admitted he made a mistake and gave us a chance. 3 plays different and we are maybe 8-0.

What eats at me is that it should have been the Boys that won that SuperBowl. We spotted them 21 points .

Want to know what's worse? That superbowl happened on my birthday. January 29th I "celebrated" by watching the team that beat my Cowboys win the Superbowl.

I thought I was going to get to see the Cowboys win number 3 in a row......:(

That is tough!

I do get just a small bit of satisfaction outta that NFC title game. That the Cowboys fought back and never quit, and that resulted in the 49ers crapping in their panties for a short time anyway.:(

Ouch that double sux for you.

I had just got home from Somalia in January 1992. My youngest son was born Janury 27th and we brought him home in Cowboys pajamas with a Cowboys knit cap. I was holding him when we got our first touchdown. No, I didn't jump up and "spike" him, but I hollered so loud it scared the little guy and I had to give him to my wife to calm him down. :laugh2:

Got the breakdown from wikipedia. There is stats on the pre-SB era and that was part of it.

The first SB I ever saw the Boys win was on my B-Day. SB XXVII on Jan. 31, 1993
