What did the Bears defense not do to the Colts offense? The stayed in that base 4-3 set and never moved or ****ed guys around pre-snap. They made it too easy for Peyton Manning to pick them apart. If you notice the 3 defences that have given the GREAT Manning fits over the past couple of seasons have been the Patroits, Ravens and Chargers. All are 3-4 defenses and all 3 use a ton of pre-snap movement and re-alignments to throw off the opposition's QB and blocking schemes.

That being said, Dallas should consider this when hiring for their defense. The men who mastermind these defenses are: Wade Phillips, Rex Ryan and Bill Beliceck. Obviously Beliceck is not available but Phillips and Ryan are there for the taking. I know it appears that Ryan is not even being considered for this job so that leaves us with Phillips.

I feel that Phillips is truely the right man for the job. He along with Todd Bowles can turn this defense into a powerhouse. Phillips might be the best 3-4 guy in the game right now! I think that with Garrett (a rising star in the coaching world) and Sporano (the guy who called all the plays for the NFL's 5th ranked offense last season) the Cowboys would be in better than good shape on the offensive side of the ball. Find a excellent special teams coach and this team should quickly be placed among the NFL's eliete assuming they make a couple of position upgrades in the draft and free agency.

I truely feel this situation makes the most sense for this team's chances of winning it all in the short term.

Thoughts????????

I think this could have been posted in the Rivera thread.

Depends! If you want to try to shore up your HC for the next 5-10 years,, you go with a younger guy,, like Rivera, if you just want a stop gap, then you go with someone like phillips or Norv. Neither one of those guys will be here longer than 2-3 years.

And the 3-4 does not confuse Manning.. the pressure those teams bring, is what causes Manning to have bad games. But that being said, Manning beat 2 out of 3 teams you mentioned, when it counted,, in the playoffs.

Gosuns, I tend to agree w/ you, but I wish the Bears would have had a QB. I think they would have won going away if Grossman could have kept the O on the field longer and not put the D is such poor field position. I wondered if the Bears D really held the Colts to those FGs, or Dungy knew the Bears could not catch up so a FG was good enough and wouldn't run the score sky-high and embarrass his good friend Lovie...
