I wonder if Vegas had odds on this SCOTUS decision...
it was never in question. it has been rumored a high ranking politician owns gambling establishments in atlantic city.

Gambling in general should be legal across the nation, I don't get the puritanical christians who are against it. Everyone wins.... including the IRS. Except for the fishes, I guess.

Reminder the NFL did not want the states to have the ability to gamble on Sports.

Funny thing is... In New Jersey which pushed this.

The place they want to put it in is in the race track next to Met Life Stadium - home of the Jets and Giants.:lmao::lmao2::muttley:

They're ahead of the curve big time, they even legalized poker years ago so kudos to them.

infuriates me I can't play Texas Hold'em for real money in Texas

I agree. I would have left things the way they were. math is an integral part of physics. and the math says you will lose far more often than you will win. fools never learn. no sense trying to teach them.
No offense but perhaps you’re not good at gambling? I’ve been doing fine for 3-4 years now. There definitely are ups and downs though. I’ve lost over $500 on the O/U in two different hockey games (in the past 2 weeks) in the final 7 seconds of the period. I’ll like to personally thank Ovechkin for one of them.....bastid.

Funny photo shop!!

I’m assuming that this will only be legal in states where Casinos are.

Hopefully this will influence Texas into finally legalizing Casinos so we don’t have to drive to neighboring states Indian based Casinos.

I only bet on the Steelers winning outright. That way if they win I make money and if they lose I'm happier yet.
Haha...I’ve done that with teams I hate more often then I should have. I’ve also bet against the Cowboys, when I truly think they’ll lose, that way I either make money in my misery or lose money and love it! Having said that, I never really bet “big” on the Boys so I don’t have conflicting emotions. Couple hundred dollar loss to see them win I game I didn’t expect them to....I’ll take that any Sunday :)

I was right with you all the way up to "...yet all the schools still poormouth...."

You really think so? Honest question. I mean, schools have no control over where lottery money goes. Heck, they cut programs and all kinds of other stuff every year just so they can cover the cost of their core curriculums. I really don't understand the sentiment. Teachers are the people to whom we entrust our children every day, the people responsible for molding the future of our country. As with anything, there are good and bad teachers. Most are underpaid and a few maybe way over for what they offer, but by and large teachers are dedicated professionals who choose to teach because they love educating kids, and often end up paying for stuff out of their own pockets because schools can't. The national average yearly salary for primary school teachers is around $54k and in some states more than $12k less than that. In some states teachers average around $77,000, Alaska, NY, California, so you have to consider cost of living in all cases, but teaching is a thankless job that nobody goes into to get rich. And folks choose to be teachers so you can't completely blame the system, but in a world swimming in lawyers who make millions chasing ambulances and athletes who become some of the most affluent people in the country by playing games, If I'm complaining about anyone wanting more money it's not going to be teachers.

My post wasn’t bashing schools, it was the state govs that tell that story about how all that money will go to the schools and the schools will see a windfall of money....and ultimately they don’t see any change

Because the states does not disclose that the normal funds going to schools from taxes and such are deferred to other "pockets". The lottery money just replaces the tax money. But they let the people think it is extra money going to the schools, not just replaced.

Exactly!

While I’m a proponent of gambling there're some serious side effects to the community.

Have you ever been off the strip in Vegas or the boardwalk in AC?

Gambling addiction can ruin lives and families. More access to it will have some effects over time.

There are currently 25 states which have no Bills in place to over turn State Laws in place.

States currently with Casinos or pari mutual wagering are more likely to introduce sports betting.

With the Raiders and Golden Knights moving to Las Vegas and a AAA baseball team already there, the idea of the pros being against gambling for "integrity's sake" is a joke

It is OK for us but not for you is not a winning policy

That's in the same dumb realm of argument as "more access to guns will lead to more heinous murders" and "legalizing marijuana will lead to more stoners"...

Statists have no clue, honestly. People have free will and they will choose their course of life regardless of what government says. The war on drugs has only led to more crime, murders and bad people getting rich than legalizing the drugs would.

Sure, gambling addictions can ruin people financially, as drugs, cigarettes and excessive alcohol can ruin someone's body, but it's not the government's ****ing business to tell people what they can and cannot do in this world.

It is the governments role to protect and serve the people and why we are a nation of laws and rules because everyone doesn’t make the right decisions nor able to control themselves.

That's Hobbes theory. A.k.a. the theory of fascism and communism.

America was founded on the Locke theory, though. Limited central government, mostly free will of the people.
