Swaim Speaks

a year or two ago I was reading an online roundtable discussion btw texas longhorns beat writers. "toughness" around the program was a big deal at the time as the team was transitioning away from Mack Brown, so a hypothetical question came up about who on the team they'd want by their side in an alley fight. Swaim was the unanimous pick. he's not Witten but he's going to take Hanna's spot eventually. he's my favorite pick of Day 3.

I think he could be Witten's replacement. As athletic as Escobar is I do not think he can pick up the finer points of blocking. If this kid can catch I think he could be ready when Witten hangs them up. Remember escobar's contract is coming up soon and the question is has he shown enough to warrant another one to replace Witten. That being said I can see Escobar going elsewhere like bennett and doing very well when he is used more as a receiving threat than a total package TE.

I've only seen limited film on him but I've liked what I've seen. I think this guy can play in the NFL. I see him as a receiving threat with the rumor being he can block. I don't think he'll replace Escobar but compliment him. Now if Escobar wants too much then you fall back.

But all this is premature. Let's see what Escobar and he do this year...if they get enough snaps to show us much.

Escobar has done his part, the question is has Dallas done theirs. I really thought Dallas , as missed with Martellus , started to figure it out, get the tall players in teh end zone. Alas, they did not. a few times and i think he hd a td or two. Possibly, but i think Dallas has again used a player inccorectly.

Yep, an excellent blocker. And as noted, don't judge his pass-catching ability based on being thrown the ball by Tyrone Swoops. Swoops is useless and if that is the best UT can do, they need to fold the program.

well jt barrett begged mack to give him a chance to come in and compete with swoopes, he ignored his pleas. the rest is history...

If this team remains run centric n way Escobar gets more snaps or opportunities. The only way to see if Escobar is legit is Witten misses a lot of time.

I don't see any TE getting much time behind Witten unless he goes down which I would hate to see.

I do think he can make a run at Hanna and I've thought they could keep 4 TEs this year if he plays well.

The only way I could see them keeping 4 TE is to go light on the OL which is possible depending on the development of the Rookies.

Good stuff. Thanks for the info.

If he blocks better than a FB then yes but I do not see that this year. The only FB on the Roster is Collins I believe.

They singed two this offseason. Collins and Agnew, I think his name was.

Big family man and was at the park instead of watching the draft.

Dare I say it, the next Jason Witten?

Witten was a beast in College.

This guy.. Meh...

Clear as day though he can be a versatile blocker.

It is not just the QB position that has been a problem at Texas. The whole program has done less with more talent than I thought possible. It seems like highly recruited players go there and and never reach their potential. It has been said that the players are soft and I agree. It is s culture problem .

What would make you say that? The fact that the best running back in HS football history goes there and is now a waste?? ;)

Half of Escobar's catches were TDs in 2014.

Not anymore.
