Whats the deal with Mike Williams? Is he still hurt? Did he sign somewhere? He's a former top ten pick if I remember right. Why isn't he being mentioned as a possible signee here?

I just mentioned him in another thread.

I think he's worth taking a flyer on.

Probably because he isn't any good.

I am sure Bledsoe still has nightmares about him.

The Buffalo Bills have released tackle Mike Williams after the offensive lineman failed to live up to his hype since being drafted by the organization. Williams was the fourth overall pick in the 2002 draft, but has yet to develop into the player that the Bills had envisioned.

"We have released Mike Williams," said Bills general manager Marv Levy. "We appreciate his efforts and wish him well in what lies ahead in his career."

Williams was ready to enter the final year of his five-year contract before being released. Now, he may sign with any team. Williams started 42 games over his first three seasons at right tackle, but was moved to left guard during the 2005 season.

There will probably be a market for Williams for teams that feel they can get the potential out of him that he once had.

Here's another option.......I don't think so.

Lions Insider

Team's left tackle receives a one-year deal for $6 million

ALLEN PARK - The Detroit Lions named Jeff Backus their franchise player, allowing Backus, a five-year veteran from the University of Michigan to test the free agent market but with limited mobility.

The team used the non-exclusive franchise tag meaning that Backus must be offered the average of the top five salaries made by tackles in the 2005 season. Any team that signs Backus to a contract offer sheet must allow the Lions the opportunity to match their offer within 10 days and if the club elects not to match it, the new team must surrender to Detroit two first round draft picks.

While Backus will get to test the market it is highly unlikely that he will garner any interest. Backus was the 18th overall pick in the 2001 NFL draft and despite starting 80 consecutive games for the club, has never been named to the NFC Pro Bowl roster.

I hadn't though about it that way, but Bledsoe does have first hand experience. If he was all that, he'd be here for a look

I think we should take a chance on him. Wont cost a lot, and if Parcells can get him back into shape, hes still young, and would be perfect at RT.

this guy sucks so bad. his performance was similar to Tucker's last year. Awful. Add in that he was the #4 overall pick in 2002 and you get some serious stank on this guy
