Posted this in another thread, but thought it might be fun:

In all honesty (and I guess we are all to blame), but the discussion around here is getting a bit stale... they all run this way:

Garrett is an idiot... evidence to the contrary.. evidence doesn't satisfy... guys who don't get it are idiots... no the guys who say we don't get it are idiots...

next thread

Garrett is great....evidence to the contrary... evidence doesn't satisfy (because it really doesn't )... guys who don't get it are idiots... no the guys who say we don't get it are idiots....

next thread

Jerry is an idiot... no Garrett is the problem... blah blah blah
Jerry is great... no Garrett is proof that he isn't... blah blah blah

next thread

player does something stupid... Garrett is the reason.... blah blah blah
player does something great... and everything else would be great if Garrett wasn't here.. blah blah blah

etc etc etc.

All day, every day.

SO......

If you couldn't mention Garrett's name for an entire week on the forum... positive or negative... can you list 10 things worth talking about?

Here is my list....

1. The game against the Steelers
2. The return and impact of Demarco Murray
3. The courage and toughness of Dez Bryant
4. The possibility of the division title
5. The draft needs of this team in 2013
6. Will Claiborne be able to play this weekend?
7. How will Pittsburgh attack our defense, and do they have the weapons to do it effectively?
8. Do you think Josh Brent should be able to play?
9. If we play Washington in Washington for the division title can you imagine anything more fun than that?
10. Meaningful games in December. Fun isn't it?

How about a thread talking about how we arent going to talk about Garrett. lol

Ah ha! Not fair! I couldn't introduce the thread without setting it up... so do you have 10 things??

You forgot 'post about what we could talk about besides Jason Garrett.'

Nice thread. Wonder how many top-10 lists we can get.

Rats.

I gotta run, but I'll come back and play when I can. How 'bout we start with a thread about how Callahan's ZBS differs from what we've run previously on the OL or why our OTs seem to be struggling so much with pass protection?

This is hyperbole. There used to be plenty of threads about how Dez was an idiot and should be stripped of the 88 jersey. Now that he has picked up his game, he is a superstar. Similarly there is a thread after just about every game--win or loss--about how terrible Doug Free is and rightly so.

I actually thought about starting a thread about loyalty to the Cowboys and how it relates to your fantasy football team.
For example say you had McCoy as a RB on your team and a big producer but is playing Dallas. I feel obligated to sit him.

That's a good initial list.

I'll add some, using some of yours:

1) Steelers game - what's the game-plan? How do we win?
2) OL - are they all terrible? Can we make the playoffs w/ this bunch? Why are they so bad?
3) Demarco return - our record and points scored with him in the lineup/are we balance again?
4) Where's Miles Austin?
5) Name one veteran, besides Doug Free, who 100% shouldn't be around next year
6) Draft needs - biggest need vs. value--S, DL, or OL?
7) Long term who needs replacement - ie, Romo, Ware, Witten
8) Do we need a new DC?
9) Review our recent draft
10) If things bounce our way, can we win a division title?

If you look at the first page, there is a wide variety of post topics. Only 1 is about Garrett and that was just a recap of his PC which got 7 replies.

1. The game against the Steelers

I think we'll lose.

2. The return and impact of Demarco Murray
Slim. Murray's a good back. So is Felix. Neither can overcome a horrific offensive line. Murray was praised last week for getting 50 yards rushing on about 2 yards per carry.

3. The courage and toughness of Dez Bryant
I don't think anyone's ever questioned the courage or toughness of Dez. It's the intelligence we worry about. Hopefully gutting it out is the right decision over the long term.

BTW, the league is full of courageous and tough players. So this is hardly newsworthy.

4. The possibility of the division title
It's a bad division or we'd be out already. I'd still say our chances are extremely remote.

5. The draft of needs of this team in 2013
I wouldn't draft needs. I'd draft talent. Hopefully the Cowboys can find talent along the trenches early and often in the draft this year. But don't force it.

6. Will Claiborne be able to play this weekend?
He's on the practice field today but I thought a player had to sit out at least one week after being diagnosed with a concussion. So I don't know. I don't care much either. It won't be the difference between winning or losing this game.

7. How will Pittsburgh attack our defense, and do they have the weapons to do it effectively?
Yes, they have the weapons. They can get deep with those receivers and it's up to our pass rush to make sure that doesn't happen. Miller's a big worry as Ben's safety valve with our backup ILBs on the field.

8. Do you think Josh Brent should be able to play?
No.

9. If we play Washington in Washington for the division title can you imagine anything more fun than that?
Yes. Playing all our backups in the finale because we had the division and homefield locked up weeks ago.

10. Meaningful games in December. Fun isn't it?
In this league, unless you are really awful you will have some meaningful games in December. The 3-8 Eagles played a meaningful December game. I don't think that's much of an accomplishment or something we should be happy with. We should expect more.

NFL football period is fun. It would be a lot more fun if your team was one of the real top contenders.

Now about that idiot Jerry......:)

It is not how they start, it is where they always default to and end up.

True, but when you see your team being so mediocre over the years, most discussion is going to eventually end up about partitioning blame between the owner, coaches, and players... unless you're just happy being a fan of a mediocre team based on accomplishments 2+ decades ago.

Since we're talking about Garrett i'm one of the ones who really wants a new head coach but i have to give credit where credit is due, Garrett has done a good job this year dispite the circumstances

- our starting MLB is hurt
- his back up is hurt and on ir
- the MLB across from him is hurt....we're starting 2 off the street MLB's
- Our starting safety is hurt
- his replacement is hurt, were starting a special teamer at his slot
- Our starting NT is hurt, and his replacement is on the NFI list....
- Our O-line is in shambles
- Our starting running back has missed most of the season, and we've had no simblance of a running game until he came back
- Our starting wideouts have nagging hamstring issues and can go out at anytime and the other one has a broken finger.

considering the circumstances Garrett has coached this team to a 7-6 record which is INCREDIBLE considering with the talent playing and the talent missing we should be nothing short of 1-12 right now

I am assessing a 15 yard penalty for intentional grounding of the original purpose of the thread...

1st down 25 to go.

:eekmouse:

5 yard penalty for a false start... 1st and 15 to go.

Produce a thread title that wouldn't relate to the head coach.... or 10. :)

I love this thread idea. And I do wonder if the problem is that our tackles are as awful as they appear at times (I'm high on Smith, so I'm talking Free and Parnell), or if they are struggling with the scheme.

Playing the 4-3 with Ware & Spencer at DE, Lissemore & Hatcher at DT, Ernie Sims at WLB, Connor at MLB and Butler at SLB to add more speed to the lineup.
