So, by that standard, should the Patriots take him in the 1st round ? How about the Packers ? Atlanta ? New Orleans ? San Diego ? Baltimore ? Pittsburgh ? Philadelphia ? Carolina ? Tampa ? Chicago ? NY Giants ?
Are you sane? You take the best player available and he would be. A 21 year old dynamite blue chip qb to sit a year or two behind a 31 year old, for pete sake even Joe Montana was trade bait by 34.Randy White;4332547 said:Really ?

He might have shown enough against the Eagles to hang onto his job for another year because I'm sure Jerry will look for a vet to replace Kitna and it's unlikely Dallas will carry a rookie 3rd string QB again.

jnday;4333048 said:The Pats are smart enough to realize that Brady is 35 and the worse case is that RG will be future trade bait.
The Raven , Joe Flacco is average .
The Bucs , how is Freeman looking ?
The Bears , Cutler is average at best .
The Eagles , have you noticed Vick's injuries mounting up ? The Eagles have .
The Packer used first on Rodgers while Farve was starting . Why wouldn't they do it again ?
I could give you reasons for the Saints and others . Any team would draft him if the value is there .

tyke1doe;4333111 said:The new collective bargaining agreement makes drafting a quarterback in the first round more likely for teams. Those quarterbacks aren't going to assume the big salaries and large signing bonuses in their first contract. So a team like the Cowboys, Eagles, Saints (those with highly paid quarterbacks) can take a chance on RGIII if he's there for the taking
Randy White;4333179 said:Sure they " can " take a chance. It's a free country and there aren't any league rules against it. Just like they can take a chance at drafting a back up place holder in the first round too, or not even using the pick in the first round at all.

Do you understand the term "value" ? Of course not . Do you understand the value placed on the QB position in the NFL ? Again it's doubtfull . The teams that you named will be picking later in the first round . Why wouldn't they pick top 5 talent ? The QB position is the most important in the NFL . The Madden comment really doesn't register with me . I don't do games . What I do know is that the Packers had sucess drafting Rogers in a similar situation . Usually when a team hits with a move like that , they repeat it . Why wouldn't they ? The whole concept is based on value at the QB position . Think about it .Randy White;4333166 said:1) Not ONE of those teams would spend their #1 draft pick on a QB. At best, they'd trade the pick to acquire more talent, but they wouldn't use it on a QB.
2) The PATS drafted Ryan Mallett last year in the 3rd round. I have a better shot at owning the Cowboys next year than the Patriots drafting a QB in the first round. Especially with their obvious need on defense.
Because the NFL is not the John Madden video game.
