• Thought Dallas defense would be shredded by the niners offense, but that wasnt the case.

• Have to be proud of how the defense played.

• Have problems at CB.

• Melton had limited snaps because of game conditioning. Had good pressure when he was in, and will only get better with better conditioning.

• Broaddaus, "i was wrong about Mincey". Going up against Staley he got pressure and did a good job all day.

• Disappointing on 3rd down the team dropping back in zone. Or playing up against the WR on 3rd down and not being physical (Mo).

• Dallas was able to get off the field 5 of 12 times on 3rd downs.

• You can sum up all of Romo's mistakes as poor judgement. Seen him make them throws 1000 times. Just bad plays plain and simple.

• Team will not bench Romo for Weeden.

• In goaline situations:
First one they came out big and Romo for whatever reason came out the huddle late and never got the play off and took a timeout. Murray mad. Came out of TO with 3 wide, why not stay with what you called? You have 3 plays to get 1 yrd. On the play the OL was run blocking so its clear Romo changed the play on his own. Smith got the sack because the OL was run blocking and nobody blocked him, was going to be a run to the right and the whole right side was in the endzone.

Thing thats disappointing is they ask Romo about the play and he dodged any responsibility. Wouldnt admit to him making a bad play.

People are saying Smith allowed the sack, but its not his fault. The play was designed to be a run and the whole OL was run blocking and Romo was going pass.

• On the Cox INT, Dallas comes out big and Dez out wide. The backside CB is not covering anybody. Romo tries to force to Dez coming across the field deep and doesnt accoutn for Cox so he drops back because he isnt covering anybody and makes a easy INT. Really bad play by Romo.

• Romo missing Harris on the TD was the worst mistake of the game. Only guy who couldve made a play is Willis and he was 7-10 yrds away. Romo couldve lofted it to Harris and it still wouldve been a TD. 90,000 people saw it, but the 90,001 person didnt. That person was Romo

• McClain had 2 hits on Kap that if Kap isnt as big as he is, he knocks the QB out.

• Melton played 12 plays and saw alot of pressure, saw the quickness. The team was worried about his football conditioning so they wanted to limit his snaps. But going on from here he can practice and his snaps will be high come the tenn game. He gets up the field fast.

• If Mincey gives you what he gave you this week the RDE isnt as big a issue as thought. Suprised alot and did a very good job all day.

• First big play to Bouldin was man coverage Carr just didnt get his hands on him at the LOS.

• Dallas troubles on 3rd down are simple. Dallas was affraid with Moore out there and missing Scandrick. Scandrick plays that physical coverage they need, and thats why Dallas played a little more zone on 3rd downs.

• HC needs to hold Romo accountable. Run the plays called.

• On Murrays fumble you see the left knee but what you dont see is the right knee. Looks like it couldve been down. Refs blew alot of calls both ways.

• Road crowd is better then the home crowds at the stadium. Alot more into the games.

• Where was Dunbar in the 2nd half? When youre passing you dont want Dunbar in there pass protecting.

• Zack Martin played great, destroyed McDonald all day.

• Have to be proud of how the defense played.

My first thought when I've heard the "defense played good" mantra I've constantly seen repeated today is "Oh my, how low the expectations have fallen".

As I stated in another thread, it's hard to get excited about the following aspects of the Cowboys defense:
  • Colin Kaepernick is currently the #1 ranked passer in the NFL with a 125.5 QB rating. He completed 70% of his passes yesterday and averaged 8.7 YPA.
  • Defense forced 0 turnovers
  • Defense only had 1 sack and beyond that just <ok> general pass rush
  • Defense allowed 5.0 ypc against Gore/Hyde. 5.0 ypc will get you killed in this league
  • Pass defense looks exactly the same as it did last year -- which shouldn't be surprising -- it's the same guys as 2013
  • The lack of cover safeties stands out like a sore thumb
Hope I am wrong about this -- however, from my viewpoint the Cowboys pass defense was terrible, the rush defense was bad (based on the Gore/Hyde's 5.0 ypc), the defense was unable to force a turnover, and the pass rush was subpar.

rush defense was terrible because the defense was on the field so much and the end of the game will always skew rushing numbers. Of course Kap had a great QB rating he didn't have to really do anything. He was gifted turnovers and we couldn't cover Davis if our life depended on it. I was impressed with our D-line and LB. our secondary and defensive play calling is what killed us.

Clearly this is a fans view that really doesnt comprehend what he's seeing. They spoke about Kap accuracy and rating. The defense is designed to keep everything in front of the dropping LBer and more in the middle. The niners took what they were given and kept going to it. Thats the design of the defense not the deficiency of the players. Now is the job of the coaches to adjust to that.

Kap threw for 201 yrds, and 124 of them yrds came on 5 plays. 4 of which were over 20 yrds. 37, 27, 29, 21 yrds. 93 yrds yrds came on the first drive.

Niners got the majority of their running yrds by spreading the defense out with WRs and running inside. As are 32 other teams in the nfl right now. Thats the go to formation right now thats being used to run the ball in the NFL. Almost every time the niners lined up showing their intentions to run they got stuffed. Thats one of the biggest reasons they didnt do much in the 2nd half. They wanted to run and couldnt unless they were spreading Dallas out.

This isnt a personal attack but atleast dont base a judgement on the defense if you dont know what ur looking at.

Mincey played a nice game.

Get T. McClain out there for 20 snaps (for Hayden), get Melton out there for 40 snaps and the defensive line will be that much better.

Garrett is all of a sudden supposed to hold Romo accountable after seven years of not holding him accountable? Who holds Garrett accountable for not holding Romo accountable?

I don't disagree with anything you said. My point is I suppose you could be proud of the defense if your assumption was the Cowboys were going to field the worst defense in the entire history of the NFL yesterday. Evidently that's what most people expected.

The fact that they actually fielded just a poor to middling defense (at best IMHO), seems to be reason to rejoice, dance in the streets, and be prideful.

:)

Romo not taking responsibility for changing a play that resulted in a game altering mistake? No way.

LatinMind:

Thanks for you taking the time to put these together. Every time I see you post one I eagerly open it up and consume the info.

NO problem. I like listening to what they say. And just think might as well post it. While i cant stand Mickey he makes good point sometimes. They discuss alot of stuff that doesnt get out into the media for a couple weeks sometimes. Like the Spencer situation. They were talking about Spencer not going on PUP atleast a month before media started talking bout it.

Considering McClain was out for so long i can see why they didnt play him just by looking at how they limited Meltons snaps. I can see Melton getting those 40 and the team limiting McClain in a similar way they did with Melton. The way Hayden played theres no need to rush McClain back right now anyways. Hayden suprised me alot.

I agree Hayden played better then he has ever played. Yes, I am excited that our defense wasn't terrible - wasn't top ten, but wasn't god awful like last year.

Mickey really needs to get it over with and just wear a cheerleader's out fit to work every day. I dont care how far one of his passes traveled, he clearly didnt have a ton of zip on the ball.

This is the underlying issue. No accountability. We can discuss it until we're blue in the face. Nothing will change until Jerry cedes control within the organization a la Parcells 12 years ago. That's not going to happen anytime soon so here we are.....embrace it.

My favorite thing about this episode is you can actually hear the frustration in Mickey's voice early on.

Awesome write up. That summed up the game!

If they can't trust Moore, why not go after a veteran you can trust. I believe in the whole develop young guys thing, but a veteran like Bailey and/or Asante Samuel (if avail) could help this secondary and teach our young corners a thing or two about coverage. Yeah, we have a secondary coach, but these players can absorb more knowledge from these vets who have had success in the NFL.

Romo did screw up and Murray's fumble set the tone early. If Dez is drawing that much coverage why not check down to other options who are probably open. Romo needs to relax and has to stop pressing.

Oline and Dline both won in the trenches. I know it sounds dumb when we lose in the manner we did. It's easy to lump every aspect of the game to the outcome, but TO's buried us and we spent the whole game trying to shovel our way out of it.

Aye. Our offense, particularly the quarterback, was the headline yesterday. San Francisco didn't have to show much and certainly didn't have to work that hard for points, thanks to those turnovers.

That said, while the defense played hard and some of them actually competed, the 49ers got whatever they needed in the run game, converted 58 percent of their third downs, and proved to be as efficient in the passing game as they are probably capable of being. Kaepernick was 8.7 YPC, which is a huge number - and they have one of the slower offenses in the league.

While Dallas' defense isn't what gave the game away yesterday, that does not mean it played particularly well.
