They have a better conference record, once we beat the Eagles we will have a better conference record, because even if they win, they´ll beat the Raiders, non conference game.

Exactamundo.

They are basing it on the three way tie breaker. Right now Tampa has a better conference record than we do. We win and we have the same conference record and we have the head to head tie breaker.

is just going by conference record, which doesn't apply because not all the games have been played. The number 1 tiebreaker is head to head.

IF the playoffs would start today, the Cowboys would be in it because Dallas (9-6) beat Tampa (9-6) who beat Chicago (9-6).

I am confused, does this effect any scenarios? How can we control our own destiny if we aren't the #6 seed right now?
probably has to do with conference records...the losses to Pitt and Baltimore don't hurt the Cowboys in head to head matchups...tampa can't do better than it's 8-4 record while Dallas can match that record with a win over Philly and then the head to head wins the deal for Dallas...

You are wrong. NFL.com tie-breaking procedures

Tie-breaking procedures between three wild cards are as follows:
1) Eliminate all but the strongest teams in the same division using division tie-breaking procedures (easy since TB, CHI and DAL are all different divisions).
2) Head to head match-ups ONLY when one team either beat or lost to all other teams in the tie-breaker (CHI only lost to TB, TB only lost to DAL so this one is not applicable).
3) Conference Record (chicago would be out if going against either Dallas OR Tampa Bay and Tampa Bay would be out if only going against Dallas but Tampa Bay has an 8-4 conference record which will force the tiebreaker to continue)
4) Common opponents (4 minimum and there are no 4 common opponents)
5) Strength of victory (you are +35, TB is +45 and CHI is +32).

So if it's a three way tie at the end of the year, TB has a small advantage but if you win your game by 10 more points than TB wins their game, you go. If you win by 9 or less MORE than TB, you stay. 10 points and it goes to strength of schedule.

So bottom line, you need to win to make it. Plus you need to win by a decent interval OR have EITHER Tampa or Chicago lose.

I thought I heard during a Sunday game that ....common opponents was ahead of conference records now as a tie breaker rule. They mentioned it changed a few years ago.

No, the Cowboys win and they are in (period). It has nothing to do with points.

It doesn't matter because you only share two common opponents, you need 4...

Go back and look at the link you provided.

Three or More Clubs

(Note: If two clubs remain tied after third or other clubs are eliminated, tie breaker reverts to step 1 of applicable two-club format.)

After the multi team tiebreaker is reduced to 2, the tiebreaker formula starts over. We beat Tampa, period.

Wow, what a rebuttal. Too bad you have to have beaten Chicago as well for head-to-head tiebreaking rules to be in use... "Head-to-head sweep. (Applicable only if one club has defeated each of the others or if one club has lost to each of the others.)" Obviously, you winning versus TB has nothing to do with nothing. You will tie to TB in the next one (conference record) and don't have 4 common opponents so the next step is strength of victory which you are losing by a small margin.

That is wrong. Dallas has the tie-breaker over Tampa by beating them head-to-head. Use the NFL.com's playoff picture. Most national media outlets, aren't overly bright anyhow.

Be cool. This is real. Just win and we're in. Don't get wrapped up in which seed is which right now. There will be a lot of tossing of the salad next weekend.

...and tossing of cookies if we lose.
