If we are going to build ourself as a defense first team in the mold of Tampa Bay than we need a roster like Tampa Bay.....I dont know how you expect Marinelli to accomplish what he did in Tampa Bay without the right players...

Tampa Bay had TWO pro bowl DT's and a hall of fame Safety...our two weak points

DE Simeon Rice 1st / 3rd pick / 1996
DE Greg Spires 3rd / 83rd pick / 1998
LDT Warren Sapp* 1st / 12th pick / 1995
DT Booger” McFarland 1st / 15th pick / 1999
MLB Shelton Quarles*
LB Derrick Brooks* 1st / 28th pick / 1995
LB Alshermond Singleton 4th / 128th pick / 1997
LCB Brian Kelly 2nd / 45th pick / 1998
RCB Ronde Barber 3rd / 66th pick / 1997
SS John Lynch* 3rd / 82nd pick / 1993
S Dexter Jackson 4th / 113th pick / 1999

Defensive tackles and a REAL safety is what we are missing

That lineup can make the career of an average coach

Hmmm......

We just need to constantly change up our play calls, same with offense, you cannot run a "system" in todays NFL. Talent is not our problem, coaching , and more importantly coordinating is. As in OC and DC must change.

Ronde Barber, Lynch and Simeon Rice have been HOF semifinaists and will probably get in one day. Sapp, and Derrick Brooks are already in the HOF. So, that tampa defense had 5 HOF caliber players.......and Booger Mcfarland was a pro bowler.

Yeah everyone loves our defense until the Rams ran through it, now its trash. Lol

Not everyone. I have liked our defense but I have also questioned if it was for real. I have been calling on Dallas to spend draft picks on the DL, like they did the OL, for a couple of years. And who doesn't think Jeff Heath is a liability. I watched some of the film of that game again and of course, Heath is either late recognizing the play or he takes a poor angle to the ball.

Heath is also the worst tackler on the team. Guy should be a STer or the 4/5th S on the roster. It is a crime he starts.

I was making comparisons to that team towards the end of the season. We’re close to that defense and better on offense.

The difference is that front four gave consistent pressure without the need to blitz. That’s where the Cowboys defense needs to get better especially when it’s needed like in the Rams game.

That defensive line was NASTY.

They made being defensive coordinator a pretty easy job. Coaching defense isn’t nearly as hard when you can put CONSTANT pressure on the QB by just rushing 4 players.

Sapp, Booger and Rice were in QB’s faces all day long.

Great post...they were absolutely loaded. But those guys were full of drama and ego too. Something Rod has come to really dislike as he's aged IMO. Thus, the 'projects' he prefers. Rod needs to go...with all due respect.

The Bucs werent dumb enough to let Marinelli have personnel input. Just do your job and coach the guys we give you. Somewhere along the line we thought it would be a good idea to let him dictate the type of guys we should or shouldnt have on the d-line.
