"There are things we like about (Ajayi), but if he can't pass protect, he will never be active," Tannenbaum said Tuesday, per the Miami Herald. "I don't care how talented he is between the tackles. If Jay Ajayi can't pass protect, he won't be active."
Reading blitzes and picking up free rushers can be the biggest adjustment for a rookie running back entering the NFL.
What Tannenbaum's comment really tells us is that anyone expecting Ajayi to eat heavily into Lamar Miller's workload can slow their roll. Before that can happen Ajayi needs to beat out backups Damien Williams and LaMichael James just to be active on Sundays.
