This is a rookie starting his first game. He made plays....but there were times Garret stuck it in his gut when he was gassed and thus it was a wasted play. We should have regrouped when Choice scampered down to the 10 yard line. But no, with all thos weapons we run a couple of ridiculous plays and were TOO HAPPY to kick a FG. A TD would have been CLOSE to a knockout blow. Then when Pitt starts to make their comeback...Garret was to happy to draw up plays in HOPES of time running out on the Steelers....and instead all he did was keep putting a defense wearing down more and more on the field. And Wade did not help by switching to a soft zone...giving the Steelers yards they were having trouble fiding the majority of the game. A complete choke job by the coaches. The players deserved better.
I disagreed with everything you said last week about Choice, but I tend to agree with this.
Whether it was Holland getting injured or us playing not to lose, we changed our game philosophy with about 7-8 minutes left. Or maybe it was after the goal line stand.
We tried to run clock and punt, depending on our defense.
And we also stopped putting pressure on BR, which is a huge mistake. If you give him time he will beat you, if you pressure him he will not hurt you.
I think the game turned on the 3rd and 16 they converted with the deep pass. Where was the safety help on that one?
Anyway, I could be wrong, but it seemed like we began to play "not to lose" when we were up 10 with about 7 minutes or so left.
I am very sad today, but I am very proud too. I live in Steelers country and all we heard leading up to this game was, "the No.1 defense, in Pittsburgh, 15 degrees, ... the cowboys don't have a chance."
Like DG said, "they are what we thought they were, and we let'em off the hook."
