Dolphins reporter Armando Salguero says he's told that Jason Taylor would "happily" redo his contract to expedite a trade to Dallas.
Salguero says Taylor would consider playing beyond 2008 if a deal is made and suggests a Greg Ellis-for-Taylor swap. NFL Network's Adam Schefter reported last week that the Cowboys have internally discussed dealing for Taylor.

It's hard to gauge him on 2007 b/c the team as a whole was horrible. Look at Randy Moss..but no.. I'd say pass and stick w/ Ellis.

if it was 3-5yrs ago sure, but now...i dunno

If that's all it took, a straight up swap for Greg Ellis, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Do it. I'd thrown in an extra 5th as well. I love ellis, but taylor makes more impact plays than ellis and im sure if we got him it would at least be for 3 years. I'm tired of ellis crying anyway. If he thinks the grass is greener elsewhere ship his butt to miami, then he'll really see what it feels like to be on the titanic, because that team isn't winning more than 5 games this year.

I endorse this trade. Get. It. Done. Jerry. A fresh start would benefit both parties.

You people would rather keep an above average player as opposed to the defensive player of the year just 2 years ago and a player who will be ultra motivated to win because he's been beaten down by losing the past 6 seasons. Get on the phone jerry!!

This could be a big deal if the Cowboys have serious interest.

I would take Jason Taylor over Greg Ellis as I feel that Taylor is more athletic and a better fit in the 3-4. Ellis was a great pass rusher, but wasn't that good in the coverage aspect. That's not a slight on him as I feel he played well, just that he's a more conventional 4-3 DE body type.

And if it meant the trade would keep Taylor out of Philadelphia or Washington, that would be an added bonus.

That said, I think it would take more than a player-for-player deal to get it done.

Haha, I'd love to know what the people are smoking who say they would rather keep Ellis. If we could swap these 2 guys straight up and Taylor would take modest money, it would be an easy decision.

Taylor is actually a good enough athlete to play in coverage, and he may have had an off year last year, but Ellis was only able to do what he did last year because of Ware, and if you put Taylor across from Ware, he would probably get 15 sacks easily.

I don't think it's going to happen at all, but I don't think it would be a tough choice if the opportunity arose.

Ellis one of the 10 most disgruntled

Albert Breer E-mail News tips
At least that's what my buddy Tom Curran of NBCSports.com thinks. Here's his take on the player with the seventh biggest gripe league-wide ...

7) Greg Ellis, OLB, Dallas Cowboys: Ellis' is a different case. He showed up for OTAs but then bailed because he was upset with the number of repetitions he's getting in practice. Anthony Spencer, the heir apparent to the 33-year-old Ellis, started getting more time in practice this week. According to reports out of Dallas, Ellis doesn't trust the Cowboys contention that they're trying to preserve his body in the offseason. The Dallas Morning News reports that Ellis has a bonus clause in his contract (renegotiated last year) that kicks in only if he appears at 85 percent of the team's offseason workouts and attends mini-camps and training camps.
In case you want to see it, here's the full list of those that aren't content:

1) Dolphins DE Jason Taylor
2) Bengals WR Chad Johnson
3) Bengals WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh
4) Bears LB Brian Urlacher
5) Bills OT Jason Peters
6) Vikings C Matt Birk
7) Cowboys OLB Greg Ellis
8) Chargers WR Kassim Osgood
9) Jaguars DE Paul Spicer
10) Saints DE Will Smith

Except Haley was like 28 when we got him.

Taylor is 34.

6 years is a long time in football.

First Zach Thomas now Jason Taylor, is there some reason we think that aging players from the worst team in the NFL will help make this team better?

I like what Greg Ellis did on the field last year. He missed the first quarter of the season and still had 12.5 sacks. He seemed to get into the backfield often, and caused a few big turnovers. He knows the system and is well regarded int he locker room.

Can someone explain to me why Jason Taylor would be a better fit here?

Umm, I don't know, maybe because he is a better player? My grandmother could have gotten 10 sacks last year playing on the other side of Ware.

Taylor is less than a year older than Ellis being born in 9/74 and Ellis in 8/75. Ellis is good but Taylor is elite.

They do that trade straight up and you have to do it.

i don't think you can accurately call it a "fresh start" when you're in your final years, can you?

i guess taylor is this weeks "bone" for people to grip on and talk about.
