We just need pull the trigger when we feel like we are close. The problem is that we are draft warriors, and Jones love the hype of the draft and likes it to be about him, so he needs picks for that. Yes I know we got Cooper, but we also can do a lot of moving around to try and grab players we need. Like this year we may have beaten the 49ers had we made that one move to grab someone before the trade deadline. Could have been us against the Bengals.
Defense still matters, despite your blatant attempts to ignore it. Tampa Bay held the Chiefs to 9 points in the SB, but Brady won that game. Cincinnati held the Chiefs to 3 points in the second half and OT, to overcome an 18 point deficit. "Great comebacks" don't happen without defensive stops. The Rams held San Fran to 17 points. That's why they won.
What the Rams have done is not a crazy idea, and should be done more in the NFL. They’re not pushing all the chips in, they’re just allocating draft capital differently. They’re getting guaranteed solid guys at needed positions and immediately improving their team. Matt Stafford, Jalen Ramsey, Brandin Cooks, and Von Miller right now for 3 of our next 6 first round picks, and a 2nd rounder? Half the people in this forum would take that trade in a millisecond.
To be fair they've nailed some draft picks big time with Aaron Donald and Cooper Kupp. Thing is when you think you are close you go get guys and the Cowboys have not been willing to do that (see Jamal Adams).
Don't matter how you do it, it ain't happening in Dallas. Been needing a NT n FS for over 5 years. We're talking about a team that pays the kicker more than the starting FS, SS, nickel CB n NT...the kicker.
There’s only one way to build a team. And that takes intelligence. Free agent is just a swap of players. We just don’t know how to get the smart ones.
Football players win championships, not superstars. Although you do need one or two. We don’t have football players we have undisciplined wannabes
We need coaches who can motivate players into wanting it more. Difficult to do when it's clear from the second a player walks into the building that the head coach isn't in charge. There's always teams that just want it more....and we are supposedly so "talented" that we just need to show up to win. Doesn't work that way and never will. Until Jerry not only gets the right HC, but backs off himself as the face of the franchise.....we are going to see more of the same. It's pathetic that the team really looked disinterested in the SF game. Simply proves to me that McCarthys claim to "know how to win" is complete crap. He just happened to win once and is living off that.....kinda another Jerry now that I think of it.
Drafting is the smart way to build the base of your team. FA are meant to come in and fill need spots. I get why the Cowboys draft. They do it well. But they cant expect 7 rookies to perform at a high level.
If a championship is the goal the worst place to be in the league is right in the middle. If you have some key pieces in place you're foolish to not go for it. Over a ten year period I'd rather have a a couple deep runs with legitimate hope for a championship sandwiched between a couple top ten draft pick seasons, than I would ten years of false hope, at best.
