Just wondering where we ranked with team sacks when we lost Ellis compared to now.

Thanks.

After the game when Ellis got hurt (he was injured late in the third quarter against Arizona), we were tied for 21st in sacks. Right now, we're tied for 24th.

With Ellis, we had 19 sacks in 260 pass attempts (279 total pass plays), for a sack rate of 6.81 percent. Since the injury, we've had eight sacks in 176 attempts (184 pass plays), for a sack rate of 4.34 percent.

However, our sack rate in the first four games of the season was 8.51 percent before it dropped off, even with Ellis. In Ellis' last 4.75 games, our sack rate was 4.70 percent. So since those first four games, it's 4.70 with Ellis and 4.34 without him. It certainly SHOULD be higher with Ellis than without him, but the dropoff hasn't been that great from what it was in his final month. And maybe it would have gone back up to 6 or 7 percent if we still had him, but it's difficult to say for sure.

I am encouraged that Carpenter had a very good game against the Falcons. What a time for him to start establishing himself. Singleton is an experienced and disciplined linebacker but he literally jogs to the quarterback.
Maybe Carpenter can start picking up the sack slack although I would be peachy kin with good quarterback pressuring.

Not trying to make excuses for the lack of pass rush... because it is WEAK. But since Ellis has injured we've played Indy and NO who were both up there among the league leaders in not allowing sacks.

It'd be nice to have another edge rusher, or better yet, a DC that doesn't mind to blitz Roy since he likes to kill QBs.

Parcells wanted this change to the 3-4, so laying the blame strictly on the DC isn't exactly fair. BP has mentioned more than once he doesn't like to blitz.

The funny thing is Manning is usually one of the toughest to get to, yet they harrassed him all day.

We played some teams early that were the same way. Washington, Jax, Tennessee, New York some of the best pass pro teams in the league. (I think Garrard has gotten sacked alot more than Leftwich)
