Teams figuring Rob Ryan out

stats are not for losers but they are overated , Society has become to reliant on breaking EVERYTHING down to a statistic which can become very shortsighted at times. But are usefull in other times.

As for the defense considering we didnt really add any impact players in the offseason sans a few solid vets in coleman and elam i think Ryan has done a oustanding job .

....over a short time period maybe..........over a longer term they become a trend : they need to reacted to at that time.

The quality of the offenses also must be factored in. Three of our last four games are against bad to below average offenses, and Buffalo has been awful on that side of the ball for four weeks now.

Ryan has done a good job, but it's tough to argue that the defense is improving. At best it is staying static, which is good considering how awful we were last year.

Three of our first four games were also against bad to below average offenses.

You have no point.

Lol, a little explanation goes a long way, when someone is listening. Listening skills are important. Agreed. :starspin

Yeah they figured if you throw the ball in the middle of the field against Dallas, they will complete alot of passes.;)

Our blitzes and rush is not getting home and because of that qb's have hit our secondary with some big plays. That is the big concern. Grossman and Moore did not get hit enough and so they looked liked all pro's.

Go figure, we make Brady look human for 58 minutes and we let Grossman look like, well Super Bowl Tom Brady-lol

I think some of the problems have a lot to do with a secondary that has not had the starters playing together for more than 1 or 2 games all season long. From the start of the season we have had to rely on Ball and Walker to fill roles. Be it Newman early in the year along with Scandrick and then Jenkins who was already beat up at the start then goes down to injury. My hope and logic tells that the secondary will improve as the 3 starters are back in the lineup playing together.

Actually, our 1st 4 opponents average 23.1 points per game while our past 4 opponents averaged 19.1 points per game. The early opponents were at the bottom of the 2nd quartile in scoring (close to the NFL average) while our most recent opponents were near the bottom of the 3rd quartile, on average.

The Spencer hate is nonsensical. You basically said "Unless he's the best, he's not what we need" which is silly.

I think while the offenses we faced in the first quarter of the season were "better" than the 3rd quarter of the season, they weren't sufficiently better to explain the dramatic drop in in points per game. Part of it is offensive efficiency though but the other part is our defense gelling in a new system.

It's made more impressive that we've done it with Lee one-handed and Jenkins out.

It's weird to see folks in denial when we've got something good on our plates. If we take care of business this weekend we'll crack the top 10 in defenses.
That's pretty special to me, independent of last year, but especially given what we saw.

Overnight our tackling has improved, our energy has improved, our discipline has improved. And you're upset because Spencer doesn't beat his man on every play?
Get real

I gotta post this quick, because my break's almost over and I gotta get back to bagging groceries, but stats are for losers.

Many players can have one good game; can Spencer continue his play for the remainder of the season?

I've tried to be patient with him, but he does not consistently generate the pressure needed to make the pass rush effective. Spencer does not make teams pay for double-teaming Ware. There is no excuse for this man; in the pass rushing department, he has been a disappointment, and I hope he will be released after this season.

He has 21 QB pressures on the season, only 9 behind Ware.

It appears the opposition has a better feel for our coverage tendencies on the back end. Earlier in the year, it seems we forced the opposing QB to make throws into tighter coverage, presumably because Ryan was ahead of his opposition. Now it seems the opposing coaches know how to isolate either a particular player our an area in coverage and get the matchup they want more than before.

I don't know about the stats, but I don't have the sense the defense is getting better. We've allowed some very average QB's to look pretty darn good in recent games.

Yeah FLcowboy Spencer also had a swipe at the QB elbow for a broken pass at a critical time late in the game.

Every time when the D struggles a bit... poster here take the blame on Spencer that he hurts the team b cuz he cant get a pass rush.

I thought this is a team game..

Where are the real fans know what there talking about :bang2:

Yes, the last 2 QB's averaged 15pts+ better in passer rating than their season averages. But in the prior 2 weeks, opposing QB's (both kind of average in hindsight) were essentially shut-down. Weird and uncomfortable. :(

Second 4 games** - 18.5 points per game
Last 3 games - 16.6 points per game

*First 4 includes Romo's pick sixes
** Second 4 games includes the Eagles collapse

Yeah... teams are REALLY figuring out Rob Ryan...

Let's take a look at the offense though

First 4 games - 24.75
Second 4 games - 20
Last 3 games - 30.3

11 games is to small of a sample size to say he has been figured out

The only thing keeping us from saying this defense is improving dramatically is the "almost there" plays.

Many times Ware and Co are just about to get the QB and the QB either evades them by the hair on their chinny chin chin or they just get the pass off(ironically enough for a big gain - too many times for my liking)

In Summary:

Get the "almost there's" to "gotch ya's"

and we are solid.
