The Cowboys come into the year with a carryover of 3.26M as well.

This puts the tag for Dez Bryant right at 12.825M.

So, his cap hit is that amount when it could be substantially lower with a long-term deal.

They can open up room with a long term deal but they also are not hindered by the tag either in terms of flexibility and do not have to have their hand forced into making a deal.

So if they came in at 3.2 under and this year it increased 10 looks like they are currently 13.2 under before tagging Dez later today? I don't see where they are 20 mill under?

Nice , this means we have well over 20 million in cap space.

Just curious where you are getting this 20 million dollar figure. All the sources I've heard have us closer to 15 million. Tagging Dez takes up the majority of that money.

Where's Adam JT?!

They were not at zero-room for the year to begin with

That's not accurate . We had almost 11 million + Cutting Melton .

It's enough to franchise Dez and take care of our own. Only way we sign anyone good in FA is restructuring Romo , Carr , or smith .

I think we do ask Carr to take a pay cut (who knows if he will), but will definitely restructure Tyron Smith's contract. As for Romo, I'm not touching his contract. He had a terrific season, but no one knows how much more time the guy has (I'm being optimistic with three years). JJ says 5, but I'm not quite sure.

I'd agree. The years and age of Tyron give us plenty of leeway to restructured his contract if we see fit, and any restructuring beyond his contract is going to be more future trouble than it is worth. We can get 8 million in extra room from his deal and no smart moves would need more than that.

I'm not a cap guy. How much do we have to spend bottom line? Thanks in advance.

After applying the franchise tag to Dez, we have around 6.5-7M in room. The team is certainly out of any sort of salary cap hole that had been a semi-issue in past seasons. They can pick and choose what they want to do and if they value big free agents they can go after them, either my structuring the free agents year one contracts in a specific way, or be restructuring Tyron and/or Romo's contracts, or both. Basically any move they don't make around the salary cap this year will be because they deemed it stupid to do so.
