It’s time to cut Witten!.....Nothing personal, just good business! If we can cut Emmitt and Troy, surely we can cut JWitt......ijs

So true. It's funny that we pulled the plug on hall of famers and future hall of famers, yet so many are convinced we can't move on from Dez or Witten. It's coming.

It's good business to cut Dez. Moreover, I'm not buying into your theory that Dez is still some sort of superstar.

Dez may still be around this season, in which case I will root for Dez because for me it's about the Cowboys, not the player. That's a real possibility.

But you have your head in the sand if you don't think there is a chance he gets cut, in which case it seems like some people on this board will need to be on suicide watch. It's a more real possibility than you guys want to admit.

Just remember, it's not personal, it's just a good business decision. Rationality says cut your losses. Emotion is really the only reason to keep him around. The Cut Dez Train is picking up steam. Get on it before it leaves the station.
That train was totally derailed and exploded today my friend.
After these contracts today Dez would be a fool to take a pay cut..he may be in line for a raise.

Nothing to do with Dez having the most touchdowns as a Cowboy in history eh?

Nope. You are correct. Neither one of them are worth their cap hit currently. How many touchdowns Dez scored 4 years ago is irrelevant to how many he will get this year.

That would be great. I will be rooting for another team to pay him five times what he is worth so he can wreck their cap for a while.

Older veterans getting cut are discovering the "double edge sword" of free agency and the salary cap. These days, players are not competing against each other in terms of which one offers more to a team. Instead, they are competing against their own contract and whether it is perceived as equitable in terms of their productivity.

The mindset of a veteran is that the contracted amount of their salary should constantly increase because their previous contributions are cumulative...which they are not. Realistically, both sides are speculating on "futures",an investment type based on an analysis of their productivity in years to come. Veterans would have longer careers if they realized this and kept their ego in check.

Clearly, it was thought that these recent seasons would define Dez's career as a top 3 receiver, if not #1.and a future Hall of Famer. Dez has not been helped by the recent change at QB but his greatest liability was in his own hands, if you will pardon the pun.

Teams that win championships do so because they have the great fortune of possessing a type of player that answers when destiny knocks. That is, when the defining moment of victory or defeat appears in critical level games, they refuse to accept nothing but victory....they make "The Play"..

Michael Irvin #88 was one of those guys, there is a reason he was allowed to use the title "Playmaker".Go back to the early 90's, particularly the playoffs, and time after time, he was there in that "must have" 3rd down play. He was absolutely consistent. That level of confidence in a receiver does not exist for Dez Bryant, and that is on him. He looses focus, he is sloppy, he is selfish and sometimes immature.

It was said of Drew Pearson #88, that he was the consummate professional, he demanded perfection out of himself when it came to running routes. He would use a measuring tape to determine his distance from the sideline or a specific point on the field. He made his cuts like a surgeon. His quarterbacks knew precisely where he would be at all times. He was a student of the game. Dez Bryant is not.

Dez is far more physically gifted than the previous two #88's even in their own times. However, he has been a disappointment to the legacy of their jersey number and he has not earned the salaries of his current contract. A pay cut is in order but Dez will never understand how this may actually benefit him when all is said and done. Championships typically earn a player larger salaries for the rest of his life, long after his playing days are over. Dez's current salary is most likely spent and will be gone forever.

We have too many holes to fill overall anyways. An amazing free agent is not going to get us over the top. We need to keep going with good drafts THEN you throw money at an Elite FA that makes the team unstoppable. Just gotta keep having good drafts. Right now they need to bring in people for depth especially at Linebacker. A guy like Hitchens but at half the price. Has to be one or two out there.
