Does he have the best top end speed in the history of football?

Im debating with one of my friends, he thinks Bo is faster at top speed, i think they are equal, with maybe a slight edge to Ginn Jr.

If nobody knows who he is just, go to you know where and type in his name.

IMO once he gets going nobody can catch him.

If he falls to round2 i wouldn't mind picking him up

Ginn being around for our pick in the 2nd round sounds highly unlikely at this point. Of course, someone could start spreading some drug rumors or something, that may help a bit.

Darrell Green would have blown his doors off... for that matter, Green might STILL be able to blow his doors off...

That guy's a freak of nature...

What shocks me, just watching the highlight videos, is how fast he can get to his top speed. He's got a crazy burst.

Yeah, the fastest players were probably guys who most people either didn't hear of, or they knew about the guy but he was more of a runner than an actual player.

Also, there's probably some long-striders who have better top-end speed, if I'm understanding your meaning when you say "top end speed". It takes 'em longer to get up to it, and once they're there they can't cut or change direction without needed to completely build back up to their top speed again... but if we're just talking about a guy's top speed once he's achieved his top speed, there are guys who take some long strides and they cover ground fast because it takes them fewer steps.

When I think of fast, I think of players who once they break it, there is huge separation

on offense the fastest football players I ever saw:
1. Bo Jackson
2. Eric Dickerson (looked like he was only in 4th gear and would be blowing defenders away)
3. Tony Dorsett (He admitted fear of being tackled or hit drove him to run harder)
4. Jerry Rice (he wasn't very fast, but ******, he would just run away from defenders
5. Willie Gault
6. Barry Sanders

On Defense
Deion Sanders
Darrell Green

Bullet Bob Hayes. Call me old school. He changed the way the position is played. Think about what that really means.

Don't forget Herschel Walker...he was definitely in the top 10. He ran 4.3 a few times with that size!

Among the fastest football players ever include:

Bob Hayes - Was faster compared to other players of his era than any other player.

Johnny "Lam" Jones - Didn't do much with the Jets but could flat out fly. Won a gold in the 4 x 100.

Renaldo Nehamiah - KR for the 49ers. A story's told that someone asked about his 40 time and the answer was 4.5. Surprised that it wasn't faster, the questioner was then told - "but that was over hurdles." Probably the greatest hurdler in history.

what makes a lot of guys "football fast" is that they can change direction and/or "veer" fluidly without losing an iota of speed.
I remember watching Charles Woodson in college, the guy would veer like a deer and not lose any speed. He may have not been 4.2 40 straight line fast, but he could run 50 actual yards to run a 40 yd TD in about the same time as his 40 it seemed like.
Reggie Bush is the same way...not sure what his 40 was but his fluid change of direction is what makes him hard to catch and tackle and makes him look even faster than he is.
Deion could do it too. Desmond Howard....Barry Sanders...
their "fluidity" in regards to changing directions, either drastically or only slightly, made them look like they had a turbo button and no one else on the field did.
Now pure straight-line 40 speed can be a slightly different story in some cases...Randal Williams maybe?
I think Ted Ginn and Reggie Bush have a lot of both though.

Looks like a great prospect, I'd definitely have to take a second look if he were there when it was time to draft in the 1st round.

Greater than Edwin Moses?

Ginn, Jr. is not the fastest player ever. No one single person holds that distinction. He will join a good sized group of other players who could blaze. Some of those players could actually play football well, others could play it at a high level and then there are those that were just fast and not much else.

I am not sure if Ginn, Jr. is any faster than Joey Galloway when he was coming out of OSU. I am also not certain that Ginn, Jr. will have as good a career as Galloway. Joey hasn't been a great receiver, but he has been pretty good. Not worth two #1 draft picks, but I don't think too many teams would complain if Galloway was on their team.

Ok, I should have said 110 hurdler.

I think Ginn has bust written all over him. He starred with athleticism in college, his route running and toughness leave a lot to be desired. He won't be able to get away with that in the NFL.

I agree on the hurdlers and Ginn, Jr. I always say it is easier to predict the guys who will be busts than the ones who will be great. The odds favor the busts. I don't see Ginn, Jr. being successful for the same reasons you suggest.

Every year I read about how the OSU defensive coaches were excited about using Ginn as a defensive back, but it didn't materialize. I think he saw some minimal time as a freshman and then nothing else. I wonder why that was.

Alexander Wright was pretty fast. Crappy player, but fast.

Same could be said for Randal Williams.
