I missed the Giants, and Chiefs game.
17-10 loss to Giants
31-28 win to Chiefs.

How did he play those games? Did he give up a TD?

Newman has played great all year and the only times I can remember him giving up points is when we were in zone and the safties blew the coverage.

Newman hasn't allowed any touchdowns. The only touchdown that has even come anywhere close to him was Eddie Kennison's catch when Keith Davis got turned around in his zone on Newman's side (Newman had the short zone, Davis had the deep zone).

As far as the two games in question, he allowed one catch for 8 yards against the Giants and two catches for 36 yards against the Chiefs.

Newman has been outstanding, and after seeing him go up against a guard to try and make the tackle on Portis and got destroyed, he's earned my respect forever. (until he starts sucking that is)

Except you said he gave up points, but the catch wasn't in his zone. It was behind him, in Davis' zone.

Adam can you give up the season stats for Newman? I know you've had them before and I have no idea where you get them but please post if you can. Like passes caught against him, passes deflected ints etc.

Didn't he completely bowl over some skin olineman on the play where he was hit from behind...

He's been thrown at 66 times and has allowed 28 completions (42.4 percent) for 308 yards and no touchdowns. He has intercepted two of those, deflected one to Dat Nguyen for an interception and had another interception off a pass tipped by Bradie James. The Cowboys' coaches credit him with 15 passes deflected, while NFL.com says he has 17.

He had a pretty sweet punt return in the Giants game, too. :)

I forget, I've already erased that game. - but seeing him even trying to go against a guard is outstanding.

The fact that none of the teams preferred to throw in his direction alone, goes miles about what coaches and players think about him.

He shut down steve smith. Thats pretty good

No he didnt

We doubled teamed Smith all day.

Newman played great. Alot of times when a player that had a very good year doesnt get to go to Hawaii, often times, it helps him get recognized a little more the following season.

If Newman keeps playing well he will make it eventually.

We didn't double Smith all day (despite Aikman's repeated declarations that we did), and we didn't put Newman on him on every play, either. About the only thing special we did was leave a safety deep on his side MOST of the time. But even then, all it did was guard against a long pass. They still could have tried all kinds of slants, hitches, outs and digs against single coverage. (On one pass when Aikman was babbling about how we double-covered Smith, Davis was playing TWENTY-FIVE yards off the line of scrimmage.) We also ran a lot of zone coverage, when all Smith had to do was get open, just like any other receiver. And he managed to do that only one time.

What's it going to be then, eh?

He was open more than once. Particularly the drag route he had before his ejection and also on the deep incompletion to Drew Carter.

For whatever reason, they decided to make Carter their centerpiece after their success in the first quarter.

A player like Smith does not go insane just because he "cannot get open". He was getting open, Delhomme was not feeding him the ball on a consistent basis.
