i really love the way this man plays.

i'm wondering what you guys think about this:

i think instead of using him on punt returns we should put him out there for about 5-6 plays lined up as a wideout opposite terry glenn with terrell owens and patrick crayton lined up in the slot.

put trust in the offensive line and marion barber for these 5-6 plays to protect bledsoe for this formation.

you've got 2 hot reads with crayton and terrell if the protection does break down, and you have two very..very fast athletes on the fly if it holds up.

who the hell could defend this formation?

I for some reason hate him even returning punts, the risk factor makes me uneasy. We can't afford him injured on offensive plays.

no way he goes over the middle.......

mostly i would use him as a decoy only...

but there is always that chance that with the attention given to glenn and terrell that he could burn a secondary with ease.

Terence newman will miss the pro bowl yet again because he doesn't have any highlight reel plays for ESPN to play at nausium, he's a steady eddie but if he should score on a punt return he'd garner some attention or take an Eli Manning pass to the house. I hope he does both on Monday Night.

Our WRs are good enough without Newman. The problem is the pass rush/Bledsoe.

Newman is above average but this year his play has slip. Maybe I expect more but he has given up plays. I do believe the lack of pass rush has hurt the secondary but overall I think he is solid. I dont believe he is having a pro bowl year. Last year maybe but this year he has given up plays and Newman doesnt get alot of ints.

Now I would like to see him as a decoy on offense because you guarantee single coverage on the receivers. I remember how the cowboys used dieon with fake reverses and went deep to irvin. Newman is probably the fastest guy on the team and was clock at 4.1 in the 40 coming out of kansas state.

I like Newman but he still has alot to prove. He's not in the Deangelo Hall or Champ Baily class but again, he's solid. Probably would be better with a consistent pass rush.

Not in their class for what? Giving up catches, yards and touchdowns?

True. Very true.

So you have stats on all 3 CBs (Newman, Bailey, and Hall) for this year in that regards?

If so, please share with the rest of the class.

Let me tell you something folks.

I WOULD NOT TRADE TERRANCE NEWMAN FOR ANY OTHER CORNER IN THE LEAGUE!

Yes, I am serious!

When was the last time he gave up a TD pass? Try 2004 when he had a bad leg!

Why doesn't he have a plethera of interceptions? Because quarterbacks are afraid of throwing in his direction! Only a couple of balls get thrown in his direction each game. Most passes are to the sidelines whereas if the receiver does not catch it, no one does. Chalk it up to smart QB play.

Bailey and Hall get interceptions because quarterbacks do not give them the same respect like they do Newman!

Why didn't Deion get a bunch of picks when he was in Dallas? Because the QBs threw most of their passes in Kevin Smith's direction.

Yes, that is a Newman-Sanders comparison. I am not afraid to do that!

Terrance Newman is getting the same respect!

Open your eyes folks!

Exactly why I hate to see him return punts.;) Unlike Sanders, TNew isn't afraid of laying the wood either.

It's kind of funny how Vintage has become this crusading gadfly who's going to set all us insufferable homers straight.

But then, I guess if Eric Edholm said it, it's pretty much an inalienable cosmic truth.

Wow! I didnt mean to start a fight but let's be honest about Newman. I am not discounting the fact that he has not allowed a TD this season. That in itself is a remarkable feat that deserves honors. But one thing that Newman is not is a playmaker! He is not in the same class as Hall and Bailey and you guys know it. both of those guys have been to the pro bowl and Hall is just in his third season!

Like I said Newman has proven to be our best corner but we need him to be more of a playmaker. He shook off the sophomore jinks (when he was really bad) and now has shown the skills that made him a top pick.

There is no way I take Newman over baily or hall. But I like him as the third best in the league. That's a good argument although Ty law and Detha o'neal both got 10 ints to newman's 3, but hey what are stats?

sjordan6,

It is hard to get picks when the ball goes your way only a couple of times a game.

I understand the nature of why his numbers are low and its a valid point. I guess Newman's talent leaves me begging for more. I think he has all the tools to be great. The speed (4.1 forty), the size (6.0-198), work ethic ( parcells raves about how he works in the off season to get better)...but he seems to be missing something to get him there. Ahhh, that swagger! The brashness. Thats what I think he needs. Trust me manster, I am totally satisfied with who he is and what he has done and if he doesnt ever get "it" then he is still ok with me. But Hall doesnt have anything more than tNewman but somehow he is a better corner.

Dieon had it! Baily has it! Hall has it! But Im ok if he becomes a darrell green because he was pretty good too!
