Terence Steele restructures contract

You don't have a clue. That deal was redone and needed signatures. I don't care what you want hear.

It is embarrassing for you to not understand the difference between a restructure and a new contract.
None of which has anything to do w the topic. You said the cowboys wouldn’t be able to open up cap space. They’ve done so rather easily , just like I said they would.

Was hoping we would can this experiment and cut him loose

Exactly.

We all like to complain about him. But very unlikely you find a better RT at $8-9 million on the market.
Actually I bet you could but then again so many make excuses for Turnstyle Steele that hate Guyton

oh crap, did they get desperate? I like Steele but has been a liability protecting Dak.

Good move. He took a decent sized pay cut and it leaves one less hole for the cowboys to fill. He was passable and available. I’m on board with keeping Steele and Hooker on reasonable deals.

Okay so if my math is correct this gives the Cowboys roughly $16 million of cap room not counting taking on Rashan Gary's contract.

They can gain $12 million from an Osa restructure, around 8.5 million from a Bland restructure, and 4.4 million from a Jake Ferguson restructure.

The big money would come from extending Quinnen Williams and Kenny Clark; which (along with the above moves) push the Cowboys' available spending to $50 million or more.

Cool. Take the

Signing Pickens long term would free almost 20mil if the breakdown is close to CDL's deal.

Exactly, but I am not counting on that happening before the free agency signing frenzy winds down.

Man it’s so weird to keep up with terms. The restructure Dak and Lamb got isn’t a pay cut but Steeles is…
By the sounds of it Steele had little to no guaranteed money left so he took a decrease on what he would make per year but now has guaranteed money. The purpose of him doing this if he's cut he's screwed no guaranteed money and his market rate wouldn't be great.

Demarcus Lawrence had something similar towards the end of his contract. He had 2 years for 40 million total but none of it was guaranteed. They ended up basically making it 3 years $40 million total but now he had a bunch of guaranteed money.

On paper it looks like they're taking a pay cut but in reality they're just getting paid closer to what they would be paid if they were cut and then resigned.

Essentially a readjustment for market rate for what they currently provide which they can do because the alternative is being cut with no financial risk/burden.

Guaranteed money is job security so under performing players taking a cut on hypothetical money that will never realistically be paid to you isn't actually a big deal

Don't love it unless they're moving Guyton to swing tackle and upgrading LT. Both tackle positions were turnstiles last year. It's an unsustainable model with an aging QB behind center. At least one of those spots needs to be upgraded this offseason.

Glad to see there's more than just myself that recognizes this.
Outstanding post.
Totally agree.
