Strong draft thus far.
Really?

I don't see it and I'm a glass half full type

Freddy at 31

Escobar at 47

we are talking two full round reaches right there

Passed on Terron Armstead in the mid 3rd round?
Passed on Demontro Moore and John Jenkin for Wilcox in the 3rd ...and Phillip Thomas is till out there too?

None of these are bad players. I think most can contiribute eventually-and for top 3 round that is for sure expected.

I just think it has be a C- or D+ effort when we had B+ to A- staring us in the face.

Any WR who wasn't from a Texas school in the 3rd and this board would have had one of the most epic meltdowns in the history of the interwebs.

Slow possession receiver.

1800 yards receiving isn't yelling slow to me, sorry. One would think he can break away from defenders, which in fact, he can. Not sure if you read scouting report, watched him play, or even watched highlight tapes of the guy.

Sweet Draft, a Garrett Draft and it is a RKG Draft.

You can count me out of that meltdown. Behind Dez and Miles (who have both missed some time in the last few years, Miles especially) we have nothing but slot-type guys. I love the pick of Williams. Good value.

SF took a TE at 55 and Escobar was rated higher than him. He was projected as a 2nd rounder.

Most doubt Fred would have lasted till 47 based on all the othe OL that were taken. Seems most teams reached for OL. Pugh and Long at 19 and 20 were much bigger reachdes than Fred.

Rookie WR take 3 years to bloom, 2 years if they are great, 1 year if they are AJ green.
They drafted Austin's replacmeent for 2014....but don't expect too much this year.

I expect a guy that can rack up 1800 yards in college could step in and be productive in the NFL if need be.

Gotta disagree with both of you.

I think the trade down in r1 got us off to a bad start and thus makes this at best an OK draft. We lost value and then didn't recover it with the pick at 31. I wish we would have taken Geno Smith at 31 then dangled him for the Jets and others over night.

Frederick was a reach by about 15 picks. ( at 47 we'd have all been happy with him as highest rated ol around) After him no OL was taken for a long time. And at least some scouts like our own loved him. He wasn't gonna make to r3 for sure. the ol before frederick were pugh and long which were both reaches imho. interior ol had about 5 guy then thinned out mightily.

Escobar wasn't a big reach. Crazy odd pick for a team with Witten and Hanna yes, but big reach, no. Seen him between 50-90 consistently. The Boys rated him their 2nd best TE. I still don't know what to make of this pick but it could be a DeMarco Murray type selection where the Dallas scouts are right and just go get value. He clearly has very real receiving skills. In fact at SDST he was really just a big WR. Could be intriguing in that Aaron Hernandez way here. But I'd have never taken him in round 2. I got other holes to fill and would have taken a spare blocking TE later on. Am impressed by his agility numbers even as his 40 time had me laughing and shaking my head.

Terrence Williams is real value. He is pretty consistently a top 60 player and only a glut of quality WRs pushes him down even that far. Guy had almost 2k yards receiving with a 1 year starter at QB. That's impressive period. Right after we took him a big run began on WRs.

JJ Wilcox was a guy our scouts loved. They targeted him heavily and after we took him there was a pretty big run on DBs.

So I think we did well in round 3. Maybe even an A for round 3.

But r1 was a C- and r2 no more than a C.

Dallas scouts clearly key agility drills over 40 times. Frederick and Escobar were excellent in agility drills but slow as molasses in the 40. Guess we won't ask either to run far in straight lines.

Depends on the rookie. Every person is different.

What you see with this Draft thus far is immediate contributors on the Offensive side of the ball with the first three choices.

Two excellent outlets for Romo and someone who can handle the bull rush up the middle, all three should start.

I expect Terrence Williams to have a similar rookie year to Dez. He'll be in that same pseudo-starter role. 40 or so catches for 500 or so yards. He should have a role in weekly game plans without being a focal point of the offense.

I don't expect him to achieve Dez-like upside and continued development to reach 1300+ yards and double digit TDs. But I do think he can settle in as a 60-65 catch guy that gets 800 yards yearly as a #2. Could always prosper beyond that with Dez drawing so much attention but anything more just makes it exceptional value.

Saves Dallas 5.5m next year in base for Miles UNLESS Miles has a phenomenal season.

That's what I said.

Not too many examples of rookie WRs making much of an impact.
Moss
Calvin J
Fitzgerald
AJ green

a few more

But some good ones two start putting up good number by year two sometimes.
Dez, for example
Michael Irivn
Many more

rarely in year 1 though

Like the entire post except this. I rolled my eyes and almost shouted "no sh**". And Escobar as I pointed out in another post was very comparable to Hernandez and Gronk in the 40, which we know is a bs stat anyhow unless you drafted a guy to run in a straight line majority of the time

This pick was THE redeeming pick for the Cowboys so far in this draft, and as far as I'm concerned, one of the better value picks for any team thus far.
