30 years ago Pitchers blew out an elbow they were done. Then the Tommy John surgery brought these pitchers back in some cases healthier. Same with progress on ACL'S.

Will there be a day that a player gets a total Knee replaced and is back in a year? I think it's a possibility.

Now thats 50 years down the line and you clone body parts for replacement!

Just seems modern medicine could fix a knee injury like this.....

Oden to have arthroscopic knee surgery

September 10, 2007

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Trail Blazers center Greg Oden, the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft, will undergo exploratory arthroscopic knee surgery this week because of pain in his right knee.

An MRI taken last week showed Oden may have some cartilage problems, general manager Kevin Pritchard said Monday.

A timetable for Oden's return will be set following the surgery, which will take place Thursday in Vancouver, Wash.

This is Oden's second health problem since the Trail Blazers drafted him in June. He had a tonsillectomy in July after struggling in two Las Vegas summer league games.

I think this whole bone on bone cartiledge issue is the next frontier for medical fixing - JMO

Something better than microfracture.

I was diagnosed with the same hip problem Bo Jackson had, a degenerative arthritic deal. Last mo I had the newest artificial hip joint put in and the Doc says I can do anything now that I could before. Floyd Landis had it done. I'm sure Bo would have come back if he had this Birmingham Hip done. The only people who limp are the people who won't get it corrected whether it is a knee or hip.

The problem is the materials that are used. The human body isnt overly fond of foreign materials and right now knee replacements use a type of teflon. Cartilage is more of a spongy tissue but again if youre not careful the human body will reject the implant and you have issues.

They are working on it but until we can imprint foreign materials with the signature that the bodiy requires for things to be accepted then your simply going to have issues.

Its not enough to come up with a mechanically sound joint and throw it in there.

And shoulder injuries are way down the line. Tony Boselli's career ended because his shoulder injury could not be fixed. Jeff Bagwell for the Astros had his career end in the same manner. There is a lot of work to be done to figure out how to fix some of those shoulder problems.

I loved the show, along with The Six Million Dollar Man, back in the day. Hopefully, NBC will keep it real and remove all campiness from the plot. With today's FX, the show could be something special.

I'm dealing with a rotator cuff right now that the Doctors say can't be fixed.

They compare my rotator cuff to a dried up rubber band, ... they could do the surgery, and I could go through the 3 mos. of rehab, and the first time I tried to use it, PING, it would probably tear again.
