TG can help TO

In watching the latest roasting of TO on espn I noticed they are now focusing on TO's dropped passes and in doing so, they replayed all of this seasons drops. The one thing that stood out to me as the main reason for TO dropping the ball is his hand placement.

The last few years with TG and Key really had us spoiled . Those guys had excellent technique while TO has none. TG rarely drops a pass while TO relies on his speed and athletic ability to get by as a wr. His hands are ALWAYS in the wrong postion to catch the pass. To me, this is TO's biggest weakness moreso than the selfish attitude and the childish insecurities.

TG should take a page out of TO's book and help him like TO helped Hurd. If TO does not correct this issue he will continue to drop the 'easy' pass all season long.

Can't teach an old dog new tricks. I have noticed TO bad hand placement for a long time now, so I am sure many of his coaches have tried to correct it, but I am sure he has just blown them off. Otherwise he would be catching it correctly by now.

If it's true that this cannot be corrected at this stage in his career , then we made a horrible mistake by taking TO.

Well, if the implication is TG has NOT been helping TO, I'd like to counter it.

Owens himself said in his Friday radio show the week of the Haley contretemps that Terry has been working with him.

The reason why Bill was so upset this summer over Owens' preseason on the bike, it's been said, is that before TO was signed, the coaches watched TO's many years of tapes and clearly saw what his issues are as a receiver. Bill wanted to his staff to work with Owens on 'mechanics' this past summer, which would have been the ideal time to do so.

It's clear from what Owens himself had to say (that he has become 'close' with Terry) that like with Bryant, T was once again 'assigned' the thankless task of babysitting the resident wideout headcase.....and instructing him on how to handle the press (TO said TG has been advising him on that).

But Owens isn't AB, who Terry in addition to advising on press encounters, reportedly spent endless hours teaching defenses to (remember the ESPN Mag blurb on the "Odd Couple" - the Madden game tutorials? )

Owens is a vet with every bit as much league seniority as Glenn..and one with a hair trigger. I think it's testimony once again to Terry's personality that he has already won the trust of a player so quick to accuse others of betraying him..when Owens singled TG out in his recent 'time of trouble', I was not surprised, but as usual, TG's contributions went largely ignored.

But I doubt T can just up and 'teach' TO like he did AB, or as TO might a kid like Sam Hurd.

The dynamics are much different, and much more potentially explosive. Still, Terry has consistently done everything he can to help others... that cannot be denied. I'd also point out a press report when Bledsoe was still starting that mentioned Owens and DB needing to get on the same page, going for extra practice together and TG tagging along to model the routes.

PS I have also seen during the games, even when breaking the huddle, Terry go up to TO and try to soothe him. Once he literally took Owens elbow and guided him.

Really? He still catches almost 9 out of 10 passes.

Yes he technique could/should be better.... you sure about that statement? Or is it just Anti-TO "stuff"

Sorry. I was refering to his stats that we posted the other day.

Since 2000 he averaged I believe just under 9 of 10.
So the hands technique is a little overblown.

He has been catching just under 90% of his passes over six years? :bang2:

Here ya go... I found it....

year.....Repts.....yards......TDs....Drops
2000......97.........1451......13......13
2001......93.........1412......16......10
2002......100.......1300.......13......10
2003......80.........1102........9......11
2004......77..........1200......14......7
2005......47..........763.........6......5
2006......44..........558.........6......6

All those yrs of drops average less the 1 a game

Translates into he drops a ball every 8.67 attempts since 2000

Add the catches brought back on penalties and he probably has a ratio of catching 9 outta 10.

Its the timing of the drops that concerns me. He can drop all game long as long as he catches game winner.

On ESPN they said that BP has been having receivers and coaches teach TO the fundamentals this week. TO has been very receptive to the help, per BP.

So all you TO haters, flame away!!

Not really.

I am making the case of the man who this week USA Today named "The Anti-TO".

AKA, Mother Theresa.

purpose of this post  not sure where you are going?

my stats were just to show that even with his "flawed" technique TO is doing well.... not to compare him to TG
