I have no idea how we got this ascending 25 year old LB for a 5th round pick. But thank you 49ers. He’s an immediate starter for us. Speed, instincts , physical, thumper, good in coverage, sideline to sideline. Besides Downs this is a player I’m most excited about.

Nice trade.

Makes up for the 3rd round pick.

Probable starter.

All Conference in college ball. 4.5 forty time
Yep my unfamiliarity with him influenced my standard negative response when Cowboys acquired him.
His '25 highlights definitely appear to show a good player.

I'll take my crow medium well thank you.
Now thats not to say I'm totally in on the Michigan kid pick.
Because I'm not, lol

But Winters looks legitimately promising at the second level.

As long as he's a defender, I am happy.
DEFENCE!!!

Love how Winters tackles in space and his break on the ball while dropping back in coverage. Nice pickup and breath of fresh air from the Murray debacle from last year.

I see why the war room was going crazy inthe 2nd round when Dallas wasn't no where close to making a selection..lol

He was pretty average last year and his playing time was going to be reduced this year with them signing Greenlaw back..who wasn't great last year himself. Dude is small and has trouble taking on blocks and shedding. He's decent in coverage. We'll see if Parker can get more out of him but most likely just a rotational piece used more in coverage situations.

Sounds like you watched him play a decent amount and are more familiar with him than me. I went off some brief last year highlights showing him making plays. I guess when I've been punished by having watched Murray play linebacker this last year it can really skew your judgment.
I'll try and remain "cautiously optimistic" that he can at least be some kinda upgrade in the middle of the dee.

My grandma would be an upgrade over Murray. Winters has some skills that we can utilize for sure. Just don't see him as a good full time starting LB.

Per Blogging the Boys article:

Here are Winters PFF numbers for the 2025 season:
  • Earned a 60.4 overall PFF defensive grade (ranked 46th)
  • Coverage grade of 62.0 (29th)
  • Run-defense grade of 62.6 (55th)
  • Pass-rush grade of 54.2 (72nd)

Id say not bad for a 5th round pick.

Dee winters was both a defensive and offensive player in HS. He was recruited to TCU as a safety but played LB. So he is a flexible player.

What I like most about Dee is that he was a big part of why TCU made the championship game. As opposed to a player playing for Georgia and being just a cog in the machinery, he was the main cog in TCU's machinery and carried a lot of weight. He could even play safety if Dallas needed him to.

Not sure what was going on for the 49ers to give him up so cheap. I'll take it!
He was going to be a backup again there.
Dee played well filling in for Greenlaw, but dropped off once Warner also went out.

The knock on Winters is that he reacts slowly, often out of position and problems in coverage. But he has shown flashes, has speed, is only 25 and better than what we had. I’ll take him for a 5th.

Dee was a solid backup, I think he is a more experienced Shamar James. I thought he played well until Warner went out.

What's his market value? He is on the last year of his contract. I can't imagine he commands a high contract now. Maybe Dallas should not do what they did with Pickens. If they extend him before the start of the season, they have that 1 rookie year to play with and hide cap money. Wait until next year, and you not only lose that rookie year, he might command a lot more money.

Can't disagree.
