That 2009 draft was just a horrible draft for all 32 teams

That list is pathetic, but who doesn't recognize Matthew Stafford? He's on my fantasy team!

On draft day the Cowboys were hoping that Hakeem Nicks fell into the 2nd and they wanted to trade up and Jerry said that day if they had the 1st round pick they would have tried to trade up for Jeremy Maclin.

Scouts did a good job advising Jerry regarding the true value of 2009 draft picks. So if there was a year to give up 'quality' choices for a potential pro bowler (like a stud WR), that was the year. Only mistake was being convinced Roy Williams was the answer - which can be attributed to the show he usually put on in Dallas when he was with the Lions, Anquan Boldin could have potentially changed the complexion of this team for many years. They just completely whiffed on RW11, he was legitimately the team's 3rd and sometimes 4th best receiving option behind guys like Patrick Crayton.

Would've been nice to stockpile picks for the next year, esp when we knew most of our picks had no chance to make the team

Not to get nitpicky -- not EVERY team had a bad 2009 draft.

In 2009 Packers drafted Clay Matthews AND BJ Raji in the 1st round as well as two other current starters Brad Jones, and TJ Lang (the 12th ranked guard in the NFL according to PFF).

That's essentially a "Cornerstone" draft and helped propel them to a Superbowl victory.

If we never trade for Roy Williams in 2008, let's say we draft OT Michael Oher in 2009.

You better bet your bottom dollar that in 2011 the Cowboys draft J.J. Watt over Tyron Smith.

Yeah, because a retired Roy Williams who accomplished nothing is better than potentially 3 solid players in positions of need.......

Packers got Raji and Matthews in that draft.

Yeah the list is pretty bare but it's not horrid.

Crabtree
Orakpo
Cushing
Ayers
Maclin
Harvin
Oher
Matthews
Nicks

Like any one of those guys couldn't contribute on any team. All solid players, IMO. Some very good.

I'm trying to contribute to this thread but i'm lost. Is it ANOTHER BASH Jerry thread or is it a 2009 draft class sucks thread? I tend to agree with the latter to be honest.....and FYI, Lions used our pick on Pettigrew. Just something I thought was worth mentioning.

I wonder if there is another team in the league who got less from that draft than the Cowboys did?
